Norway, has completed the first phase <strong>of</strong> its manufacturinginvestments <strong>and</strong> is ramping up its oper<strong>at</strong>ions. Singapore-basedsolar system integr<strong>at</strong>ors are also building up capability throughvarious solar test-bed projects locally <strong>and</strong> are poised to exp<strong>and</strong>into the region.7 Singapore’s n<strong>at</strong>ional solar research institute, the SolarEnergy Research Institute <strong>of</strong> Singapore (SERIS), opened inNovember 2009 <strong>and</strong> has started collabor<strong>at</strong>ions with leading<strong>industry</strong> players such as REC. VDE <strong>and</strong> the Fraunh<strong>of</strong>er Institute <strong>of</strong>Solar Energy Systems from Germany have set up a solar testing<strong>and</strong> certific<strong>at</strong>ion lab in Singapore, the first in Southeast Asia to<strong>of</strong>fer intern<strong>at</strong>ionally recognised solar testing <strong>and</strong> certific<strong>at</strong>ion<strong>ser</strong>vices. To complement SERIS, the Energy Research Institute <strong>at</strong>the Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N) was <strong>of</strong>ficiallyopened in June 2010. ERI@N will focus on <strong>industry</strong>-orientedresearch in wind <strong>and</strong> marine renewables, green buildings, energystorage, <strong>and</strong> fuel cells.8 Singapore has developed <strong>and</strong> implemented innov<strong>at</strong>ive urbansolutions th<strong>at</strong> have made our city <strong>st<strong>at</strong>e</strong> highly livable. Singaporewill continue to develop Living Labor<strong>at</strong>ories <strong>for</strong> <strong>industry</strong> players toco-cre<strong>at</strong>e, test-bed <strong>and</strong> commercialise innov<strong>at</strong>ive, future-orientedsolutions to achieve sustainable development. The CleanTechPark, the first eco-business park in the region, is one such largescale project th<strong>at</strong> will provide opportunities <strong>for</strong> new clean <strong>and</strong>green solutions to be developed <strong>and</strong> tested.3
