Diatomite • Perlite • Cellulose

Diatomaceous earth (DE), also known askieselguhr or diatomite, consists of theglass skeletons of millions of microscopicunicellular plants known as diatoms. During thelate Tertiary Period, approximately 5 to 20 millionyears ago, massive deposits of these diatoms wereformed in the freshwater lakes which covered muchof what is now Nevada and Eastern Oregon. Theserich deposits can be several hundred feet thick.Today, there are still many diatom varieties thatlive in both freshwater and saltwater, staying closeto the surface of the water, with other species ofplankton. Alive, they are at the bottom of the foodchain. Dead, they leave a micron-sized silica supportstructure (known as a frustule) exhibiting greatbeauty, strength, and intricacy. All EP Minerals Celatom® diatomaceous earthproducts are produced from freshwater diatoms, predominantly of the species Melosira Granulata.© 2007 EP Minerals, LLCEPM001 - 1

EP Minerals entered the DE market in 1945 with its filter aidbrand, Celatom®, and has since become one of the top twoproducers of DE worldwide.Upon entering the filter aid market, EP Minerals pioneered thedevelopment and production of granular DE absorbents. To this day,EP Minerals continues to deliver the highest quality filter aids, highcapacity absorbents, and functional additives for paints, catalystsupports, polyethylene film and many other markets. Our large, high-purity DE ore reserves in Nevada and Oregon, combinedwith multiple manufacturing sites, provide our customers with reliableand consistent supply. Our commitment to customer satisfaction andinnovation assures that we will continue to meet the challenge of creatingand delivering quality products for existing and emerging markets.Diatomaceous EarthEP Minerals’ high quality DE deposits consist exclusively of freshwaterdiatoms, with up to 98% of the Melosira Granulata species. The cylindricalshape and high pore volume of these diatoms provides high mechanicalstrength, and natural filtration and absorption capabilities. Due to thesecharacteristics, EP Minerals’ DE is a high performance filter aid and is alsoideal for a multitude of functional additive applications.PerlitePerlite is a hydrated, naturally occurring volcanic glass. Its uniquestructure consists of numerous concentric layers, similar to the layersof an onion. When heated above 1600º F, the water bound in the rockvaporizes, causing perlite to expand up to 20 times its original size. The resulting product has an extremely low bulk density. Perlite’s inertcomposition meets most purity requirements and it is effective for awide range of filtration applications, especially those that require highthroughput and moderate clarity.CelluloseCellulose fibers are derived from purified, virgin wood pulp. Cellulose isan ashless product and is relatively inert to acids, alkalis and solvents. It is the preferred filter media for processes sensitive to silica, and it isalso a versatile functional additive. EP Minerals offers two cellulosebasedproduct lines: Pre-co-Floc® and Dialose. Pre-co-Floc® is a 100%pure cellulose powdered product. Dialose is a blend of Celatom® DEand Pre-co-Floc® cellulose.

FiltrationFor over 100 years, DE filtration has been the workhorseof food and beverage processing. Today, DE continuesto produce high-quality filtrates more economicallythan other liquid/solid separation technologies. DE is themost widely-used filter aid in the world, and is ideal forapplications requiring high clarity. Many of the products you use everyday are filtered throughCelatom® DE. Examples include: beer, wine, fruit juices, biodiesel, edible oils, syrups, sweeteners, swimmingpools, industrial wastewater, petro-chemicals, enzymes, potable water and many more.CelaBrew® DE is our high purity brewing gradewhich helps reduce soluble iron in beer, andincrease beer stability and shelf life.Celatom® and CelaBrew® DE filter aidsare available in a full range of grades withspecific permeabilities to cover all of yourrequirements. The lower permeability gradeshave small pores that produce a high degreeof clarification. The higher permeabilitygrades form cakes with larger pores andprovide increased throughput.EP Minerals offers a broad range ofCelatom® Perlite filter aids, designed forfiltration applications that require highthroughput, or that have high loadingsof soft deformable solids. Our Pre-co-Floc® and Dialose® filteraids are excellent supplements forDE and Perlite for faster precoatformation, cake stability, and longerscreen life. They are also usefulfor extreme pH conditions andrecovery of valuable particulates, such as precious metals.2www.epminerals.com

AgricultureFor centuries, farmers have knownthat diatomaceous earth powder issafe and beneficial to livestock. It isalso useful for controlling insects. Manyanimals seem to instinctively understandthis and can be seen rolling in and eatingnatural diatomite. EP Minerals offersseveral organic, natural DE grades toserve the agricultural industry.Used as a natural insecticide, All Gone!®damages insect shells; causing them to dieby dehydration. All Gone!® is a mechanicalinsecticide so there is no survival and nobuild-up in immunity. All Gone! can be safelyused in and around flower beds, vegetablegardens, and in homes for pest control.Insect damage to stored grain haslong been a serious problem. In recentdecades, mankind has resorted to toxicchemicals to control these pests. Thesechemicals can cause human illnessand environmental damage. Overtime, insects can develop resistanceto these chemicals. CropGuard is afood-grade product designed for killinginsects in stored grain andother dry stored bulk foods.CropGuard is safe, tasteless, and odorless, so it does nothave to be removed fromthe grain before milling. Itcan remain in the flour withno effect on the finishedfood products. It can also beapplied as a dust or a liquidspray on garden vegetablesand crops for safe andeffective insect control.EP Minerals’ AFA grade(Animal Feed Additive) is EPA registeredand meets FDA CODEX requirements. Many organic farmers and pet ownerswho use our special food-grade DEpowders have experienced health benefitsas well as a reduction in parasites, flies, veterinary bills, and overall animal stress.www.epminerals.com4800.366.7607

Soil AmendmentsEP Minerals manufactures AXIS® soil amendments andPlayBall!® infield conditioners.
