The rewards,however, remain the most memorable aspect of senior year. Senior Awards Night and Commencement, inaddition to the celebrations of Senior Day and Senior Prom, convey a sense of accomplishment and mark theculmination of twelve years of education.The costs and dates of these events are important to seniors and their families for planning purposes. The trip price is $1,475 per student, which includes airfare, hotel, themepark admissions, and breakfasts and lunches; students should bring money for dinners and any incidental


expenses. A deposit of $775 is due by September 4th. Deposits are not refundable. The following paymentschedule is in effect: $775 by September 4 th and $775 by October 10 th . It may be canceled at any time without further notice orexplanation.Senior DaySenior Day, including the senior picnic and the distribution of yearbooks, senior pens, caps and gowns, and seniorshirts, is scheduled for Friday, June 7. On Senior Day, students will be told the number of graduation tickets theywill receive; tickets will NOT be distributed until graduation practice on June 19 th .Presentation of Graduation AwardsGraduation awards will be presented on Wednesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. Location To Be Determined. Studentswho are receiving awards will receive a special invitation prior to the ceremony; of course, any senior who wishesto attend may do so.Graduation TicketsEach senior will receive three (3) tickets to the graduation ceremony. Requests for additional tickets and/orhandicap accessible seating are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Please try to limit these requests sothat we may accommodate as many people as possible. Written requests will be accepted during the week ofMay 6 only. Tickets will be given only to those students who have all school accounts (book, library, senior dues,dean’s file) in good standing. Requests for extra tickets and/or handicap accessible seating must be inwriting from parents/guardians; no verbal or email requests will be accepted.Commencement SpeakerWe welcome suggestions for our commencement speaker. The commencement speaker should be a prominentmember of the local or educational community whose contributions and experiences would be especiallyinformative to students as they prepare for college and beyond. Alumni are especially desired as speakers.Parents/Guardians with recommendations should contact me as soon as possible.Selection of Valedictorian and SalutatorianThe valedictorian and the salutatorian have the honor of addressing the senior class at the graduation ceremony.The senior with the highest cumulative average as of January 31, <strong>2013</strong>, is designated the valedictorian; the studentwith the next highest cumulative average is designated the salutatorian. Currently, the cumulative average is theonly basis for the selection of the valedictorian and salutatorian; however, the selection process can be subject tochange.Attendance and LatenessStudents are expected to maintain an attendance and timeliness rate of at least 95% at all times. Should a student’sattendance fall below 90%, or is late more than 10%, without medical documentation, a conference with thestudent and his/her parent/guardian will be scheduled: The student will not receive his/her yearbook until the lastday of school, and be denied admission from Senior Day, Senior Awards, and/or Senior Prom.DisciplineStudents who comply with school and citywide regulations governing academics and conduct are invited to attendthe aforementioned ceremonies and celebrations; those who have excelled in different areas of scholasticachievement will be rewarded for that excellence. Only students who meet all graduation requirements willattend Commencement. Violation of the citywide Discipline Code may result in the denial of the privilege toattend or participate in the ceremonies and celebrations of the senior year, including but not limited to theSenior Trip, Senior Day, Senior Prom, the Presentation of Senior Awards, and Graduation.
