Claudio DeSanti et al.VLAN Discovery Clarifications, T11/12-218v2, October 2012A VN2VN ENode configured to provide VLANs information to the other VN2VN ENodes shall discarda multicast FIP VLAN Request frame that has a source address equal to its MAC address, and theFIP VLAN Request frame should be reported in a vendor specific way as an indication of a MACaddress duplication.If the configuration of VLANs on a VN2VN ENode configured to provide VLANs information to theother VN2VN ENodes changes, that VN2VN ENode should send a unicast FIP VLAN Notificationframe to each ENode MAC address with which that VN2VN ENode has established VN_Port toVN_Port Virtual Links. The unicast FIP VLAN Notification frame shall carry the revised list of VLANIDs over which the Locally Unique N_Port_ID protocol may be used and should be sent over theVLAN from which VLAN Discovery Requests were received.Additional VLANs may be used for the Locally Unique N_Port_ID protocol when additional VN2VNENodes configured to provide VLANs information to the other VN2VN ENodes are connected to thenetwork to which a VN2VN ENode MAC is connected. In order to discover these additional VLANs, aVN2VN ENode MAC may send a FIP VLAN Request frame to the All-VN2VN-ENode-MACs MACaddress on a periodic basis.NOTE 3 – Given that the availability of additional VLANs is due to network configuration changes, an appropriateperiod value for this activity is 20 seconds.7.9.8 FIP Operations7.9.8.7 FIP VLAN RequestAs specified in table 45, a FIP VLAN Request operation contains a MAC address descriptor andoptionally a Name_Identifier descriptor (see 7.8.6.3.3). A FIP VLAN Request frame may begenerated by an ENode MAC, by an FCF-MAC, or by a VN2VN ENode MAC.When generated by an ENode MAC or by a VN2VN ENode MAC, the FIP VLAN Request frame shallhave the F flag set to zero and the MAC address field in the MAC address descriptor shall be set tothe originating ENode MAC address. If a Name_Identifier descriptor is present, the Name_Identifierfield should be set to the Node_Name of the originating ENode.When generated by an FCF-MAC, the FIP VLAN Request frame shall have the F flag set to one andthe MAC address field in the MAC address descriptor shall be set to the originating FCF-MACaddress. If a Name_Identifier descriptor is present, the Name_Identifier field should be set to theSwitch_Name of the originating FCF.7.9.8.8 FIP VLAN NotificationAs specified in table 45, a FIP VLAN Notification operation contains a MAC address descriptor (see7.8.6.3.3) and one or more VLAN descriptors (see 7.8.6.3.15). A FIP VLAN Notification frame isgenerated by an FCF-MAC or by a VN2VN ENode MAC.When generated by an FCF-MAC, the FIP VLAN Notification frame shall have the F flag set to oneand the MAC address field in the MAC address descriptor shall be set to the originating FCF-MACaddress. The FCoE VID field of each of the FIP VLAN descriptors shall be set to a VID over which theFCF-MAC is offering FC-BB_E services.When generated by a VN2VN ENode MAC, the FIP VLAN Notification frame shall have the F flag setto zero and the MAC address field in the MAC address descriptor shall be set to the originatingVN2VN ENode MAC address. The FCoE VID field of each of the FIP VLAN descriptors shall be set toa VID over which the Locally Unique N_Port_ID protocol may be used.5
