TransCableAdvanced Design Automation for Cable and Wire Harness DesignTransCable is a schematic capture tool for electromechanical systems. It is integrated with mechanical CAD tools through bi-directional interfaces.TransCable is also integrated with TransDataBook TM for componentlibrary management.TransCable is a wire and net-based editor, which manages electricalsignal connectivity between physical components. Logical nets may beautomatically converted to wires and splices. Wires may be interactivelyrouted between pins of physical components. Splices are automaticallycreated when multiple wires are connected together. Multiple wires mayalso be routed to a common pin, which create a multi-termination. Cabletypes such as twisted, flat, or shielded may be defined. Shielded cablesymbols have termination pins to support grounding of shields with awire connection. Cables may also be defined within other cables.TransDataBook UpgradeTransDataBook is an upgrade product toTransCable. It provides library managementof parts and can be synchronized with acompany's parts information system.Adesigner may specify queries to search alibrary to select qualified parts. Componentand wire attribute sets are annotated togeneric symbols to create unique parts.Attributes on parts are used during simulation, analysis, and design rule checks.Integration with Mechanical CAD ToolsTransCable is integrated with the industryleading mechanical CAD vendors.CAT/TransCable Interface TM integratesTransCable and Dassault Systemes' CATIA3D Electrical Systems (E3D) environment.SDRC/TransCable Interface TM (see note at thetop of the SDRC/TransCable file)integratesTransCable and EDS' I-DEAS HarnessDesign product.Design RulesElectrical, physical and manufacturingdesign rules can be customized and checkedto ensure that a company's best practices arefollowed. TransCable provides standardchecks to verify that wires, splices andcables have been properly defined. These checks identify problems prior topassing design information to the MechanicalCAD tools. Manufacturing reports such asbill of materials (BOMs) and wire "From-To" lists are automatically generated and maybe customized with user defined formats.www.mentor.com/harness

Electrical connectivity and componentattributes are passed to the mechanical CADenvironment. Bundles are then routed in the3D mechanical CAD tool.Wires, cables, and splices are assigned tophysical bundles. Physical design attributessuch as separation codes, gauge, maximumbend radius, and maximum wire lengths arepassed to the mechanical CAD tool. Theseattributes are used to calculate wire andcable dimensions, which may be backannotated to TransCable. TransCable usesthese dimensions to automatically generatemanufacturing reports.HighlightsEnables design of electromechanicalsystemsSupports wire harness and cablecomponents such as wires, cables, splices, connectors, and fusesPerforms custom electrical and physicaldesign rule checksDebugs large designs using wire anddevice navigator with automatic reportgenerationIdentifies problems early in designprocessSearches library database for qualifiedpartsIntegrates with industry leadingmechanical CAD systemsProvides for customization of designmethodologies and flowsMentor GraphicsMentor HouseEdward CourtAltrincham,Cheshire,WA14 5GLUnited KingdomTel.
