Voluntary Testing. Written parental consent to <strong>random</strong> <strong>student</strong> <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong>must be completed be<strong>for</strong>e a <strong>student</strong> will be tested under the voluntary <strong>drug</strong>-<strong>testing</strong>program. If the <strong>student</strong> is of legal age (age 18 or older), he or she must sign thepermission <strong>for</strong>m. Consent <strong>for</strong>ms are valid <strong>for</strong> the current school year as definedby the Board of Trustees approved instructional calendar.DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATIONThis <strong>random</strong> <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong> <strong>policy</strong> shall be distributed to all <strong>student</strong>s in grades 7 through 12at the beginning of each school year. Newly enrolled <strong>student</strong>s will receive a copy of the<strong>policy</strong> as they register at their campus.Prior to the commencement of <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong> each school year, an orientation session willbe held with all <strong>student</strong>s to explain the <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong> <strong>policy</strong>. The <strong>student</strong>s will be in<strong>for</strong>medof the sample collection process, privacy arrangements, <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong> procedures and otherareas which may help to reassure the <strong>student</strong> and help avoid embarrassment oruncom<strong>for</strong>table feelings about the <strong>drug</strong> <strong>testing</strong> process. A parent orientation session willalso be offered to provide in<strong>for</strong>mation and answer questions.TESTING PROCEDURESA. Frequency. During the first semester of each school year, an initial <strong>random</strong>lyselected baseline test will be administered to: (1) those <strong>student</strong>s in grades 9through 12 who receive a parking permit allowing them to park their vehicles onschool property during the school day, and (2) those <strong>student</strong>s in grades 9 through12 voluntarily participating in the program. Grades 7 and 8 will not be subject toa baseline test. At least once each quarter (every nine weeks), a percentage of<strong>student</strong> participants (grades 7-12) will be <strong>random</strong>ly tested.Each school year, the Board of Trustees or its designee will determine thepercentage of <strong>student</strong>s to be tested based on the number of participants; the Boardof Trustees or its designee may determine that up to 100% of the identified<strong>student</strong> participants will be tested.The <strong>testing</strong> entity will be solely responsible <strong>for</strong> selecting the dates <strong>for</strong> conductingthe quarterly <strong>random</strong> <strong>drug</strong> test; the selection of dates will not follow anypredictable pattern.B. Random selection of <strong>student</strong>s. The District will provide the <strong>testing</strong> entity with alist of all identified participants. Students will be chosen <strong>for</strong> the <strong>testing</strong> bycomputer-generated <strong>random</strong> selection conducted by the <strong>testing</strong> entity.
