<strong>William</strong> <strong>Harvey</strong> <strong>House</strong> (houses 9 and 10, St AndrewsPlace) was designed and built in 1826 by the architectJohn Nash (1752–1835). This was a period <strong>of</strong>distinctive trends not only in British architecture, butalso in literature, fashion, politics and culture.In May 1974 the houses in the precinct <strong>of</strong> St Andrews Place,occupied by the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Physicians</strong> (RCP), wereGrade I listed.In October 2011 the accommodation at <strong>House</strong>s 9 and 10reopened after major refurbishment. The restoration anddecoration were influenced by the historical context, thestructure <strong>of</strong> the building itself and the operational brief.However, the real ambition was to create a welcoming andcomfortable ‘home from home’ in the heart <strong>of</strong> London.The accommodation was re-named <strong>William</strong> <strong>Harvey</strong> <strong>House</strong>in memory <strong>of</strong> the eminent physician.2 3


Eighteen bedrooms have all been refurbished to a ‘four-starplus’ boutique hotel standard. Superior Parkside – Richard DollParkside roomsLocated at the front <strong>of</strong> the houses, the three large superior Parksidedoubles and three standard Parkside doubles all retain much <strong>of</strong> theoriginal Regency style character and differ only in their shapes andsizes. Most have views <strong>of</strong> Regent’s Park and the RCP gardens.The three superior Parkside rooms – Cicely Saunders, SheilaSherlock and Richard Doll – are located on the 1st and 2nd floorsand all have large en-suite marble bathrooms, walk-in showers withlarge rain showerheads and a separate bath.8 9


The three parkside rooms – Patrick Manson, John Caius and CliffordAllbutt – are located on the ground or lower ground floors. Althoughslightly smaller than the superior parksides they still retain thesame features and sense <strong>of</strong> luxury. The compact en-suite marblebathrooms consist <strong>of</strong> walk-in showers with large rain showerheads.Four <strong>of</strong> the Parkside rooms can comfortably accommodate families<strong>of</strong> up to four people. All the rooms feature a writing desk, armchair,flat-screen television, climate controlling units, bespoke furnishings,bath robes and slippers. n10 11

Baillie RoomRestored at the end <strong>of</strong> 2011, the Baillie Room is a magnificentreception room housed within this elegant Grade I Regencybuilding.
