anywhere near as dramatic, or asdistracting, as the weight gain andnose-heaviness of the Glock 24. The35 has the oval cut in the top of theslide found on the Glock 24, but itdoesn't have the drastic weight reductioncuts found on the Glock 17Lor 34. Although longer than stock, the Glock 35 slide is just as beefy asthe stock slide, with the exception ofthat one oval cut in the top. Theends of the slide have been pinchedin as well making the gun easier toreholster and giving it a morestreamlined look. When equipped with any of arange of heavy magazine wells (SeattleSlug, JP, or Lightning Strike),the Glock 35 really comes into itsown. With a little extra weight in thegrip, the gun balances a lot like asingle-stack 1911, only it's lighterand sits lower in the hand. Unlikee third generation Glock 20s andGlock 35 will accept a batarketmagazine wellsd the magane,allowery17 frames require custom-cut accessoriesbecause of changes in the voidsize and repositioned lanyard loopholes.)So How Does It Shoot? My test gun showed all therough-and-tumble reliability thathas made the Glock popular in LimitedDivision, but I wanted to get anotherperson's opinion, preferablysomeone who wasn't shooting a"loaner" shipped to them directlyfrom Glock.I picked up the phone and calledLimited Grand Master Pat Kelley, ofSpokane, Wash. Kelley had recentlyswitched back to shooting Glocks aftera successful year of shooting thePara-Ordnance P-16. I knew he hadjust acquired an over-the-counterGlock 35, and I knew he would havebeen shooting it hard in preparationfor the Area 1 Championship."I just love it," he said. "I like theway it feels, and it shoots everythingyou give it. It's the 1911 of Clocks."Kelley explained that he keeps acoffee can next to his reloadingnch. Every round that comes outard or won't go into a Dilue goes into thecan for practice ammo (coffee canrounds often won't function in thePara's tight match chamber)."By the time I got my Glock 35, Ihad probably 250 rounds in that coffeecan. I had hollow points, roundnose, all kinds of junk," Kelley said."A couple of weeks ago, I took thecoffee can to the range. The Glockate every round, no problem."Kelley's 35 shoots noticeablyhigh at 25 yards, despite bottomingout the adjustable sights. My testgun was right on at its lowest setting.ChronographI took a Glock 22, 24, and the 35to the range for a session with thenew CED Millennium chronographand cycled a battery of IPSC-appropriateloads through all three.I timed 10 rounds each of Blazer,Federal, Remington, and Black Hills180-grain full metal jacket ammunition, plus 10 rounds of 180-grain cast3D and some of my own reloads. The Glock 35 added about 35 feetper second over the Glock 22 andlost about 30 feet per second to thelong-tubed Glock 24, easily makingEAR OLD TECHNOLOGY(=EL EXTRACTORSON EXTRACTOR made from supper alloyUSED AND PROMOTED BY THE 1997MI SUPER; .40 S&WACP -AVALIABLE LATE SUMMER 1998TORS:TERS INTLUM 4,STOM1 800-653-19111-610-433-9191s •506-C849ACTION SHOOTERS .
