(Muslim)Blessings in ShawwalAfter Ramadhan, we are almost in the mid <strong>of</strong> themonth <strong>of</strong> Shawwal now. This is another month <strong>of</strong>great blessings and virtues.Fasting six days <strong>of</strong> Shawwal after the obligatory fast <strong>of</strong>Ramadan is Sunnah Mustahabbah. It isrecommended for a Muslim to fast six days <strong>of</strong>Shawwal, and in this there is great virtue and animmense reward. Whoever fasts these six days willhave recorded for him a reward as if he had fasted awhole year, as was reported in a sahih hadith fromthe Prophet (sallalahu alayhi wassalam)Hazrat Abu Ayyob (RA) reported that the Messenger<strong>of</strong> Allah (sallalahu alayhi wassalam) said: "Whoeverfasts Ramadan and follows it with six days <strong>of</strong>Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime."(Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).The Prophet (peace and blessings <strong>of</strong> Allah be uponhim) explained this when he said: "Whoever fasts forsix days after (Eid) al-Fitr has completed the year:(whoever does a good deed (hasanah) will have tenhasanah like it)."Student <strong>of</strong> the week awards- Grade 6BWeek 1. The male secondary studentswere involved in a wide range <strong>of</strong> physical & mentalactivities in an Islamic environment. This year, thecamp was held at Camp Manyung, Mt Eliza.The next issue <strong>of</strong> Al-Muazzin would give us a detailedpicture <strong>of</strong> the Camp and its activities.Concentrating when studying Br. M AzimConcentration: the ability to direct your thinkingThe art or practice <strong>of</strong> concentration, no matter ifstudying science or playing games, is to focus on thetask at hand and eliminate distractions.We all have the ability to concentrate – sometimes!Think <strong>of</strong> the times when you were "lost" in somethingyou enjoy: a sport, reading a book, watching a good

Niger is a landlocked sub-Saharan country in Western Africa.Even after more than 60 years <strong>of</strong> French colonizationthat ended in 1960, the area is remarkablyuntouched by outside influence. UV levels start torise as early as September, remaining high until April.It is UV radiation that causes sunburn and skindamage.Sunburn is not only painful, it can cause skin cancer.Too much sun increases a child’s risk <strong>of</strong> getting thisserious disease later on in life.This is why it is important to protect your child from thesun every day.Some simple steps can be taken.• Slip! on clothing that covers most <strong>of</strong> your child’sbody, including their arms and legs.• Slop! On some sunscreen. Apply it on those areas<strong>of</strong> skin that are difficult to protect using clothing.• Slap! On a hat to protect your child’s face, head,ears and neck.• Shade will also help protect your child. Whenoutside, encourage your child to stay under atree or umbrella• Get your child a pair <strong>of</strong> sunglasses to protect theireyes. Like skin, eyes are sensitive to the sun’s rays.
