Withoutquestion, this year is going to be one of the most troublingChristmas Seasons ever for many families. Unfortunately manyfamily primary wage earners have lost his or her job and peopleare hanging on by a thread. This year, the Burlington CountyOffice of Catholic Charities Emergency Services will beconducting an “Adopt a Family Program” similar to the one thatparishioners of Our Lady of Good Counsel participated in lastyear. This year’s program will involve only families fromBurlington County.Starting this week, there will be flyers placed on the back table ofthe church that describe the program. The contact person for ourparish at Catholic Charities is Linda Boyd who can be reached at(856) 764-6945, ext. 20 or lboyd@cctrenton.org. For yourconvenience, all gifts, properly labeled, can be dropped off in theParish Office (Rectory) during regular business hours.Parish Food DriveThe outpouring of generosity by many of the parishioners of OurLady’s Parish this month is nothing short of incredible! As ofWednesday when this article was written, we have delivered 473large bags and 11 boxes of groceries. Additionally, we have sent34 turkeys and 70 frozen casseroles. A volunteer at theEmergency Services facility mentioned that there has been anunbelievable showing of generosity from several parishes inBurlington County and the shelves at Catholic Charities arenearly full – at least for the short term. The OLGC parishioners that donated food are to be commendedfor their generosity. You should feel absolutely wonderful overthe fact that you have made a big difference in the lives of somany people that are suffering from the lack of nourishing food.Congratulations and many thanks go out also to the Boy Scoutswho ran a food drive in conjunction with our parish food drive.Your support of their efforts resulted in our overall numbersalmost doubling from what we totaled last year.Bible StudyThe November 14 th issue of The Wall Street Journal held a verytimely and interesting article entitled: “A New CounterReformation Starts at the Vatican.” Its opening sentence: “Formost of October, more than 200 Catholic bishops, along withsundry theologians and experts, met at the Vatican to figure outhow to get Catholics to read the Bible.”At OLGC we have bible study:• Thursday Morning Bible Study – Heritage House, 7:30 –8:30 AM.
