A Unique ServiceRolls InToBreckenridge VillageResidents are completely “on board” withthe tram program that rolled into BreckenridgeVillage this past summer. Thanks to residentKay Ingersoll, who is always looking for creativeways to support her campus, Breckenridge is nowenjoying this great new service.A longtime donor, Kay has funded numerousfacility improvements and beautification initiatives,as well as the walking track that will soon beunder construction in the Veale Wellness Center. When she heard about the need for an inexpensivemeans of transportation around campus,Kay decided to invest in the purchase of twoelectric trams.Similar to elongated golf carts, the tramseach seat five people, plus a driver, and havebeen specially equipped with seat belts, rear-viewmirrors, loud back-up signals and flashing lightson top. As safety is always of top concern, numerous guidelines and procedures have beenput in place. For example, volunteers and staffmust take a training course and pass a test toreceive a tram driver’s license, which must berenewed each year. As an extra security measure, all drivers are required to carry a cell phone.During warm weather months, the tramsrun from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, providing free rides to campus events andclasses. They are also available by specialarrangement, and have even suppliedshuttle service for public events.Traveling a set loop, beingsure to avoid high-trafficareas, the trams drive alongsome of the most scenic areas of campus with drivers often serving as tour guides. This unique gift has made thecampus more accessible.Bringing enjoyment to riders and drivers alike, tram rides add an extra splash of socialization with neighbors andfriends, and allow for spontaneous trips around Breckenridge’s beautiful campus. Thanks Kay, for such an innovativeand helpful gift! nPage 12
