In 2005,17 year-old Ivy Mairi was introduced to Michael Timmins ofCowboy Junkies. Together they spent the next two years writingand recording, developing the blend of folk and pop sounds thatwould ultimately shape the 12 songs on Ivy’s remarkably self –assured Latent Recordings debut, Well You.Ivy Mairi grew up on Ward’s Island, a ten-minute ferry ride (but inattitude a world away) from downtown Toronto. From an early ageshe was surrounded by the sounds of traditional music, singingthree part harmony with her mother Kathleen and sister Martha. Asa teenager she would leaf through her mother’s songbooks; notknowing many of the songs, she began to write her own melodiesfor the lyrics she found and in time, began to write her own lyrics aswell.Ivy’s natural affinity for the music of Appalachia and the British Islesis clearly evident listening to the contemporary yet timeless songson Well You. Recorded at the Clubhouse, the Cowboy Junkies’studio in the heart of Little Italy in Toronto, Well You wasengineered and produced by Michael Timmins and features guestappearances by Anne Bourne (Jane Siberry, Loreena McKennitt),Jeff Bird (Cowboy Junkies) and Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson(Skydiggers).Track Listing:1.
