Adjudi<strong>ca</strong>tors & CliniciansElaine Quilichini, Calgary, ABChoirsElaine Quilichini is recognized internationally for her exceptional musicianship, distinguished work and extraordinarygift for inspiring others. As a Master of <strong>Music</strong> (Kodály),she has served as a clinician, lecturer, adjudi<strong>ca</strong>tor and guestconductor across Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Brazil and the Canary Islands.In 1995, Ms. Quilichini founded the Calgary Girls Choir, and with her vision and passion has built it into one of themost celebrated choirs in the world. Ms. Quilichini conducted the University of Calgary Women’s Choir for overten years and continues to lead an active music studio. A notable indi<strong>ca</strong>tion of Ms. Quilichini’s stature in the choralcommunity is her successful choral series published by Alliance <strong>Music</strong> Publishing, Houston, Texas.She is a recipient of the Alberta Choral Federation’s ‘con spirito’ award for her contributions to the choral arts. In2003 Ms. Quilichini made her debut as maestro at Carnegie Hall directing the choral concert A Tribute to Peace andFreedom.In 2010 she led a CGC tour to Italy where her choirs performed Mass at St.Marco's Basili<strong>ca</strong> in Venice and the Vati<strong>ca</strong>nin Rome.Ms. Quilichini is on the faculty of the <strong>International</strong> Summer A<strong>ca</strong>demy of Choral Conducting and <strong>Music</strong> Pedagogy in Las Palmas, Canary Islands and isArtistic Director of the Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Wichita State University summer choral programs. She continues to serve at the NewEngland Conservator yin Boston as conductor of their youth and children’s choral summer program.In 2010, Ms. Quilichini accepted invitations to conduct the Children's Honor Choirs at both the Eastern and North Central Division Conferencesof the Ameri<strong>ca</strong>n Choral Directors Association, as well as the Virginia Organization of Kodály Edu<strong>ca</strong>tors (VOKE) Children’s Choir <strong>Festival</strong> in Fairfax in2010 and 2011.Ms. Quilichini has conducted numerous provincial and state honour choirs, ACDA regional honour choirs, the Asian Pacific Activities Conference inOsaka, Japan, and has twice been selected to conduct the National Honor Choir for the Organization of Ameri<strong>ca</strong>n Kodály Edu<strong>ca</strong>tors. Ms. Quilichiniserved as adjudi<strong>ca</strong>tor/lecturer at Concurso Ansilta in San Juan, Argentina, guest lecturer at the Boston Area Kodaly Edu<strong>ca</strong>tors Conference and theNational OAKE conference, as well as conductor of a city-wide youth choir at the Dalai Lama’s appearance in Calgary.In January, 2012, Ms. Quilichini presented two workshop sessions for music edu<strong>ca</strong>tors at the Colorado <strong>Music</strong> Edu<strong>ca</strong>tors Association Conference andconducted the Colorado State Honour Choir. She also led a one day workshop for music edu<strong>ca</strong>tors at the Alberta Kodály Association Conference inEdmonton.Global Television recently recognized Ms. Quilichini, as a Woman of Vision. This award celebrates women whose passion, talent and commitment isreflected in their achievements. A perfect fit for Ms. Quilichini’s contributions.Dr. Larry Nickel, Vancouver, BCCompositionDr. Larry Nickel, an Associate Composer of the Canadian <strong>Music</strong> Centre, is a busy choral clinician and sings bass in theVancouver Chamber Choir. In 2003 Larry took a leave from 25 years of teaching music and drama to complete a Doctoratein Composition. His thesis, Requiem for Peace, is an extensive work for chorus and symphony orchestra in twelve languages.It received a second performance at the Orpheum in 2009 with the VSO and the Vancouver Bach Choir.Larry is co-founder and composer-in-residence for the West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir, which has recorded over120 of Larry's compositions on thirteen CDs. Published by Cypress, Shawnee, Morton <strong>Music</strong>, Classi<strong>ca</strong>, Pavane, Canadian<strong>International</strong>, G. Schirmer and Oxford University Press, Larry's music is presented widely with recent performances inToronto, Kiev, Tokyo, Melbourne, Cape Town, and Taipei. Larry is the owner of Cypress Choral <strong>Music</strong> Publishing, whichspecializes in promoting Canadian composers.13
