For a more detailed look at our school, please contact us to see our Expanded ReportCard.About Our School: WCHS, located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, currently serves some 1,200 students ingrades 9-12. WCHS shares a beautiful campus with <strong>Whitley</strong> <strong>County</strong> Middle School, <strong>Whitley</strong> <strong>County</strong>Intermediate School, and <strong>Whitley</strong> <strong>County</strong> Central Primary School. The facilities not only serve the student, butare also extensively used by the community. The campus boasts a walking track, outdoorclassroom/nature/fitness trail, amphitheater, football, softball, and baseball fields, along with six tennis courtsand a volleyball court. WCHS observes a traditional 6-period day and take pride in offered a challengingcurriculum which includes Advanced Placement and Honors Courses. The mission of WCHS is to provideinstructional programs in which every student can learn at his/her highest possible level. Each student willbecome a life-long and independent learner and will make a successful transition to post-high school experience.How Our School Ensures Educational Equity: At WCHS, we are proud to offer every student theopportunity to excel with a curriculum which includes Honors Courses, AP courses, and the CommonwealthDiploma program. We offer remedial math and English courses for freshmen who come to us significantly belowgrade level. Kentucky Tech at Corbin offers classes for students who desire technical training. We offer 2 afterschoolcourses, JROTC and Band, for students who have fallen behind on credits, as well as a comprehensivecredit recovery program during the school day. We have a Second Chance Saturday once per month to allowstudents who have fallen behind in class to catch up. WCHS is also served by a schoolwide Title I program.

CATS has three parts: the Kentucky Core Content Tests, the national Comprehensive Test ofBasic Skills (CTBS), and other measures, including attendance, retention and dropout rates. These elementsmake up a school’s CATS Performance Score for every two-year period. The goal is that by 2014 nearly allstudents will score proficient or distinguished.Kentucky Core Content Tests: Kentucky’s tests rate student performance as either Novice, Apprentice,Proficient, or Distinguished. These categories translate into a scale of 0-140, with 100 being consideredproficient. This chart compares our school’s performance with the schools in our district and throughoutKentucky.

Twelve classrooms are equipped with stationary SmartBoards and sevenportable units available. Cornerstone software, as well as GRADE Diagnostic Reading software, is used forskills assessment, development, and reinforcement. The math department uses STAR Math and AcceleratedMath. Yearbook classes use PageMaker 6.5 and Yeartech. A comprehensivestudent incentive program encourages high achievement and recognizes outstanding performance.
