Makesure to put up a lot of posters aroundcampus as soon as you get yournominations in to let everyone know thatyou’re running.Requirements: As a student bodyofficer, you must have at least 85%attendance in school, have only one Nor U and have a good behavior record.You must be able to go to all meetingson Wednesday after school. Thiselection is only for grades 3 through 5.Benefits: For officers and selectedrepresentatives, you are invited toLeadership Camp with student councilteams from other schools around theisland. You have the responsibility ofvoting for changes in our school,perform energizers, lead the monthlyPOPS assembly, work on fundraisers,participate in school-wide communityservice and host the Jam sessions.The student council position lookswonderful on applications andresumes for future schools. Soundsfun? Well, then run for the Püÿöhala<strong>Elementary</strong> Student Council nextweek – ask your teacher for thenomination form. After collecting thethree signatures and turning in theform on time, you may make postersto advertise your candidacy. Pleasesee Ms. McCraw in B-8 or yourhomeroom teacher for approval onyour posters before putting them up.When: Speeches will be held during2 nd lunch this <strong>May</strong> 8 th , 9 th , and 10 th .Voting will take place on Friday,<strong>May</strong> 11 th. .Cheer the class representatives in grades 4,5 and 6 at the 4 th Annual Spelling Bee onThursday, <strong>May</strong> 17 at 1 p.m. in the Cafeteria.Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, <strong>May</strong> 30 at7 p.m. at Püÿöhala Café will be the production“<strong>School</strong> Days” starring our talented students!Making Beautiful Music TogetherThe Honolulu Symphony mixedensemble brought their musicperformance and teaching skills tostudents in grades 4 and 6 to preparethem for the LinkUP! Concert onThursday, <strong>May</strong> 3 rd . The students alsopracticed with the musicians on theirrecorders playing the song “SimpleMelody.” The LinkUP! Programprovides a kid-friendly, standardsbasedmusic curriculum and creates aspecial partnership between ourschool and the Honolulu Symphony.Soon these young flutists, along withthe fifth graders, will be performing atBlaisdell Concert Hall and taking theirbows with the symphony members.Bravo!
