Alumni NewsAlumni athletes meet at BHSUFormer basketball players returned to their almamater this fall to play in the annual Stadium SportsGrill Roundball Reunion. The alumni basketballgames raised nearly $1,200 for student-athlete scholarships.Nineteen BHSU alumni players competedagainst the varsity men's and women's basketballteams in the games at the Young Center.Members of the alumni women's team were, frontrow, left to right, Jody VerHey, Melissa Christensen,Sarah Heibult, Cori Engelhardt, and Coleen Letellier.Back row, left to right, Melissa Bruns, AmandaMortenson, Heather Combs, Joni Lunney, AnnieHeltzel and Becky Schultz. The women were coachedby Myrle Hanson and Beth Bentley. Lunney wasnamed the most valuable player and VerHey, SiouxFalls, received the distance award since she traveledthe farthest to attend.Men's basketball players whoreturned to BHSU for the annualalumni game were Eric Thompson,Clancy Roberts, Brad Massman,Brant Miller, Brian Sudrala, MarkGould, and Matt Burgess. Not pictured:Mark Nore. The men's teamwas coached by John Heck. Gouldreceived the most valuable playeraward and Roberts, who traveledfrom Santa Fe, N.M., received thedistance award.Tim Bishop won the 13th annual BHSU Alumni Mile, whichwas held during the recent Dave Little Invitational at theDonald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center. Bishop, a 2003graduate who currently serves as an assistant coach for theBHSU cross country and track and field teams, finished therace with an impressive time of 4:28.51.Approximately 30 runners from across the country participatedin the race. Prizes were raffled off and a small auctionwas held to raise dollars for the Alumni Mile Endowment.Zachary Kintzley, a junior biology major from LaPorte,Colo., and Cassie Knutson, a senior art major from Ft. Collins,Colo., were awarded the annual Alumni Mile scholarships.The Alumni Mile scholarship endowment was started in1998 in support of both men’s and women’s track and crosscountry teams.
