Shortlyafter the Sichuan earthquake in 2008,the <strong>ArcelorMittal</strong> Foundation donated$1.54 million to help reconstruct theschool. The school building is made ofsteel and offers a high degree ofearthquake resistance.SeptemberGlobal Health and<strong>Safe</strong>ty CommitteeThe Global Health and <strong>Safe</strong>ty Committeemet in Luxembourg for two days to discussthe status of local Joint Health and <strong>Safe</strong>tyCommittees. Other topics were: preparationfor the annual Health and <strong>Safe</strong>ty Day, andemployee and contractor training.DecemberInternational Volunteer Work DayThe <strong>ArcelorMittal</strong> Foundation celebrated its2nd International Volunteer Work Day onDecember 4. <strong>ArcelorMittal</strong> units aroundthe world organised volunteer work fortheir employees in recognition of this day.Activities included reforestation andcleaning of local parks, blood donation andrehabilitation of local schools, orphanagesand sports facilities.8,500employees participated in the <strong>ArcelorMittal</strong>Foundation’s Volunteer Work Day
