The Norman Award CBLT Honors Volunteer of the YearThis year, Nathan Bilow will bepresented the Norman Awardas the <strong>Crested</strong> <strong>Butte</strong> <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong>Volunteer of the Year.As a professional photographer,Bilow has contributed many stunningphotos of seasonal <strong>Crested</strong> <strong>Butte</strong>landscapes to the annual CBLT calendarand newsletters. For the past severalyears, he has also donated a photographicday trip to CBLT’s annual AdventureAuction, lending his expertise to aspiringphotographers out in the field.Bilow has lived in the <strong>Crested</strong><strong>Butte</strong> area since the late 1970’s. His workhas appreared in numerous nationaland international publications, and withSandy Fails he created the coffee tablebook, <strong>Crested</strong> <strong>Butte</strong>: The Edge of Paradise.He has traveled extensively around theworld, but Bilow maintains <strong>Crested</strong><strong>Butte</strong> is the best home for his family.The Norman Award is named forNorman Bardeen, who founded CBLTin 1991 and served on the organization’soriginal Board of Directors. Bardeencontinues his volunteer service today asa member of the Independent BoardMember Review Committee. TheNorman Award will be given annually toa volunteer for their commitment to thestewardship of CBLT lands. Bilow willbe the first Norman Award recipient.Nathan Bilow’s self portrait with his wife, Monica, and their children, Elior and Naomi.CBLT has ongoing stewardshipresponsibilities for the over 4,000 acresthat we own or hold in conservationeasements. The local photographerswho donate images of the <strong>Crested</strong> <strong>Butte</strong>area to CBLT help foster awareness ofthe beauty and unique qualities of ourlocal landscapes.In additon, CBLT relies on agroup of volunteer land stewards. Thesecommitted individuals regularly monitorCBLT properties and help to controlweeds, restore habitat, mend fences,repair signs and guage water quality.Bilow will be presented theNorman Award at the Stewards ofthe <strong>Land</strong> Volunteer Party, whereall stewardship volunteers will berecognized and thanked for their valuablecontributions. The celebration will beheld January 22, at the yurt, which ismaintained by the <strong>Crested</strong> <strong>Butte</strong> NordicCouncil in the winter and is accessedusing skiis or snowshoes.
