Ranga Rao as the demonking in both versions and the child artiste of the day, BabyRoja Ramani, as Prahalada. (Later, as a young woman, sheplayed major roles in Malayalam and Telugu films.) TheTelugu version won the Andhra Pradesh State ”Nandi”Award as the 3rd Best Film of 1967.Meiyappan also produced it in Hindi in 1967, again withS.V. Ranga Rao in the same role. That was not all. Seven yearslater, in 1974, it was made in Kannada too. The veteranTelugu filmmaker Chitrapu Narayanamurthy directed allthe versions. In 1968, Meiyappan brought out a an excellent and successfulmelodramatic movie “Uyarndha Manithan” directedby Krishnan-Panju. And the AVM sagacontinues, its glory undiminished. While other studios in Chennai have closed, the AVM hascontinued. What is the magic? AVM. Saravanan, whose quietdignity and amiability have made him a popular figure in theMadras social and business circles, recalls, “I had just returnedfrom Bombay by a late flight and reached homearound midnight. My wife said that my father wished to seeme. He was in bed and my mother and brother were with him.He told me that we should commence film production againand should never stop. I told him that all our businesses weredoing well and where was the need to go into productionagain? Pointing at the AVM logo, Meiyappan told his son,“Behind that banner is 50 years of hard work. Keep it alive aslong as you can”.Saravanan says, “There was no argument and the AVMunit went to work.
