Technical Data SheetBioTector ® Model 990◗ Improved Technology with Accuracy better than + 3% of reading◗ High Speed Response < 6 mins◗ Upgradeable to Multi-component Analyser◗ An Investment That is Guaranteed to Pay for ItselfGeneral InformationDesigned to withstand corrosive environments, theBioTector ® 990 is housed in an FRP enclosurewith dual compartments to keep all electroniccomponents separate from the 'wet' or analysiscomponents. The BioTector ® 990 has a built-inmicrocontroller and is operated through a membranekeypad.FunctionsA sample from the stream is pumped into theBioTector ® reactor chamber. A patented two-stageoxidation method oxidises the organic material inthe sample. The carbon dioxide formed in thisoxidation process is then sparged and monitoredby the patented IR-detector. The measurementprocess can be described in four stages:1. SAMPLING: A representative unfiltered samplefrom the stream to be analysed is pumped intothe analyser. The sample injection valve automaticallyselects the appropriate sample volume forthe optimum measuring range.2. TIC DETECTION: Acid is added to lower thepH so that inorganic carbon may be sparged offas carbon dioxide. As the BioTector ® 990 actuallymeasures the level of TIC in the sample, it will notallow TIC to carry over into the TOC measurements.3. OXIDATION: The ozone generator is switchedon to generate ozone used in the reaction.Sodium hydroxide is added to raise the pH of thesample to the point where the production ofhydroxil radicals is optimised. In these conditions, total and effective oxidation takes place.4. TOC CALCULATION: To remove the carbondioxide from the oxidised sample, the pH of thesample is lowered again. The carbon dioxide issparged and measured by the IR-detector. Theresult is calculated and presented on screenand as a 4 - 20mA output.
