Thismeeting,decided to reassemble NORTH the column on 16th January 19<strong>21</strong> andinstructions were also issued to Battalion 0/Cs. to organisebattalion columns and to avail of every opportunity to strikeat the enemy.In view of the state of the army organisation inDunmanway area, the Brigade 0/C. now decided that the variouscompanies in this battalion should be visited by some memberof the brigade staff with a view to boosting up any loss ofmorale that may have resulted from the enemy's reign of terrorduring the period prior to Christmas. 1 was delegated to visitthe companies in the area north of the Bandon river, viz:Derrynacaheragh, coppeen, Aultagh, Togher.I was accompanied by Paddy Crowley. The companies south of theriver were to be visited by the brigade adjutant (Liam Deasy)and column 0/C. (Tom Barry). With Paddy Crowley I visited allcompaniesof Bandon river and discussed with the officersand members of each unit the general position in their areaadvising them that the column would again he operating in thenear future and that the enemy forces in the area would meet waswith plenty of opposition provided the local units carried outthe duties allotted to them. Having spent nearly three dayson this tour, I again made contact with the other members ofthe brigade staff at O'Neill's, Shanavanagh. Here we reviewedthe results of the inspection of Dummanway Battalion anddecided on the programme for January 19<strong>21</strong>. After this meetingthe brigade adjutant (Liam Deasy)brigade Q.M. (TadhgO'Sullivan) and column 0/C. (Tom Barry) moved away to brigadeH.Q. which, at the time, was at O'Mahoney's, Belrose, Upton.The brigade 0/C. (Charlie Hurley) moved to Kilbrittain where
