featuringsculpture, light, music and special effects returnsfor its second year to historic Van CortlandtManor in Croton-on-Hudson.Expanded by popular demand, “Lightscapes”will take place over 15 weekend nights,created by the Historic Hudson Valley team thatproduces “The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze,”beginning Friday, May 1, and is open for allFridays, Saturdays and Sundays in May.Ideal for all ages, “Lightscapes” is a walkthrough,land-art experience. Visitors enterthrough a rainbow and emerge from a bubblyhaze into a dreamland of curiosities spreadthroughout a historic landscape. Recycled elementsserve as eco-friendly building blocksfor intergalactic flora and friendly woodlandcreatures. Otherworldly mushrooms, immenseinsects and brilliant butterflies are among thethousands of treasures participants will find.Path elements to explore include the new“Colorwheel Castle” and enormous “CaterpillarCavern.” Larger-than-life elements like a massivemayfly and giant praying mantis join morethan 7,500 smaller sculptures including dragonflies,ladybugs and an avalanche of pinwheels.This year, thanks to the Lightscapes 2015Artist Project, made possible by a grant fromthe New York State Council on the Arts, HistoricHudson Valley and Collaborative Conceptscommissioned six local artists to create newevent sculptures, including a delft bunny, frogprince and five-lined skink.“Lightscapes” takes place rain or shine andadmission is by timed ticket only.
