Homework:In September we launched a new homework policy for years 9, 10 and 11. Everystudent now has a homework timetable and tasks are set according to the allocatedday. In addition, students are given passwords to on-line work sites such as My Mathswhich can be used at any time.2. Low Level Disruption;<strong>We</strong> introduced a new detention system to reinforce classroom expectations whichhave been shared clearly with all students through assemblies and tutor times. Acarefully planned coaching and professional development programme is in place tosupport staff to deal effectively with disruption. The <strong>Academy</strong> places a great deal ofimportance on the quality of teaching – good lessons reduce disruption.


<strong>Parent</strong> <strong>Survey</strong> <strong>Feedback</strong>‘You <strong>Said</strong> – <strong>We</strong> Did’Target Setting Day – Autumn 2012Findings from this survey were very positive indeed: 98% of parents believe the <strong>Academy</strong> has high expectations of their child 98% believe their child is well taught 93% believe there is a good standard of behaviour at the <strong>Academy</strong> 98% think the <strong>Academy</strong> is well led and managed<strong>Feedback</strong> on the two areas you have asked us to work on:1. Homework:85% of parents now believe their child is receiving appropriate homework. Our nextsteps will be to improve the recording of homework in student’s planners so thatparents can track their work more effectively. <strong>We</strong> have increased the number ofstudy support clubs to enable students to work in the <strong>Academy</strong> after hours.Over the course of this year, we will be developing and launching our virtual learningenvironment which will enable work to be readily accessible by students and parentsfrom home.2. Low Level Disruption:76% of parents now believe that their child’s lessons are not disrupted by badbehaviour. <strong>We</strong> want to continue to increase this percentage still further.<strong>We</strong> have introduced further behaviour support for students that struggle to cope inmainstream lessons, including the introduction of a nurture group in year 9 forstudents who require additional learning support.<strong>We</strong> have started work on developing the concept of ‘character’ with our studentsand staff. This develops the key characteristics of successful students, raisingawareness of students as to how to be successful.<strong>We</strong> have tightened our expectations of students still further since we have moved into thenew building; sharing these expectations via assemblies and tutor time. Our up-datedBehaviour for Learning Policy is now on-line.
