These are squadded on the silhouette range and will be announced there. At the event, each shooter will be given a squad card indicating their events and shoot times. Unless actively engaged inanother squadded event, shooters should report to the appropriate location approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to theirscheduled time. The “Little League Syndrome” will not be tolerated in 4-H Shooting Sports. Every effortwill be made to keep these events fair, kid centered and positive. “Fighting for my kid(s) is neither necessary, norpermitted.”PERSONAL GEAR:In general shooters provide their own firearms, ammunition and archery equipment as well as personal eye and earprotection. A limited number of air rifles, air pistols, smallbore rifles, and shotguns may be available for those whowish to try these events but do not have personal arms. These will be very limited. Equipment will be provided on the Running Target range.Only .177 caliber air guns may be used in air rifle and air pistol events.Sharing equipment poses problems for some events, as a result no more than two (2) shooters mayshare a rifle or pistol and their need to share equipment MUST be noted on the participant registrationform. Two shooters CANNOT share a .22 rifle in both silhouette and either 3-position or light rifle. Thesilhouette range is off-site, so the rifles will not be available to on-site shooters. Follow the registrationinstructions to designate the shooters and the equipment that will be shared. Give each rifle or pistolbeing shared a number, (e.g. #1, #2, etc.), to identify the shooters sharing it. THIS CANNOT BE DONEON THE DAY OF THE EVENT! Adding shooters after squadding has been completed is not possible. It is recommended that equipment be stored in a locked vehicle. There are no secure facilities at the 4-HCenter.Both the Texas and National 4-H Shooting Sports Programs are on record as being opposed to any games that involveshooting at another individual or at humanoid targets. Thus, water balloon launchers, air soft guns, paintball guns, marshmallow guns or similar items are not permitted on the grounds. If they are seen at this event, they will beconfiscated and disposed of by shoot management and not returned.SAFETY:The highest standards of safety must be maintained at all times. To help us in achieving that end, the following rulesapply:1. All firearms must have an action open indicator (open bolt indicator, empty chamber indicator, etc.) inthe action at all times except when on the firing line. Either commercial or handmade indicators may beused.2. Semi-automatic and tubular magazine rifles must be loaded with a single cartridge at a time.3. Users of semi-automatic firearms are responsible for keeping ejected brass from interfering with others.4. No practice or off-range shooting is permitted using any equipment in any location on the day of theevent.

5. Firearms, ammunition and archery equipment is to be kept under direct adult supervision at all times.6. Firearms, archery equipment and ammunition are not permitted in the dorms.7. Adequate eye and ear protection is REQUIRED for all persons on or in the immediate vicinity of the firingline for all 4-H shooting events during live firing. This includes spectators who are close to the firing line.EXCEPTIONS: Ear protection is not required in the air rifle and air pistol events. Neither eye nor earprotection is required in the archery events, but the use of protective eye wear is strongly encouraged.8. Event coordinators and range staff are in absolute control of their respective ranges. Their commandsmust be obeyed immediately and completely.9. The use of hand loaded ammunition must be approved in advance of use. Hand loaded ammunition forany event must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation including all of the following: nameand contact information of reloader, NRA certification number of reloader, and recipe of the reloads. Theshooter of reloaded ammunition assumes all responsibility of any incident involving that ammunitionincluding the damage of property and injury to persons involved.10. All equipment must be cased when brought to the firing line. One case per firearm.11. All cases must be marked with ‘M’ for the muzzle end.12. Some assistance may be needed with particular venues for added safety reasons. Your willingness to helpas needed is appreciated.SHOOTING EVENTS, COURSES OF FIRE AND SHOOT LOCATIONS:This is a beginner’s match only. Rules are adjusted to accommodate this being a beginner’s match. Please review those events which your shooters have selected.Note that the silhouette events are held at a site off of the 4-H Center property and may require up to ½ day. Shotgunevents are also held at a site off of the 4-H Center property. Because of the distance to this range, shotgun will beconsidered an all-day event. Squadding times for these events are approximate and indicate either morning or afternoonsquads which will be made up on site. Each county or club must provide adequate transportation and adultleaders to get shooters to the proper locations.AWARDS:NO AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN.
