Only relevant spent convictions <strong>and</strong> other information will be taken into account so disclosure need notnecessarily prevent you from working in this role. <strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> will treat any information you give here in confidence. Itwill be stored <strong>and</strong> disposed <strong>of</strong> securely <strong>and</strong> it will not be used unfairly against you.The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions <strong>and</strong> cautions are 'protected'<strong>and</strong> are not subject to disclosure to employers, <strong>and</strong> cannot be taken into account. This service is free forvolunteers, whilst those in paid employment are required to pay a fee <strong>of</strong> £13.00. The subscription will need to be renewedannually by the individual.We are currently awaiting guidance on how the Updating Service for Disclosures obtained through <strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> willwork in practice. However, it will involve subscribers providing <strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> with their certificate number, name <strong>and</strong>date <strong>of</strong> birth, <strong>and</strong> specifically giving their permission for their Disclosure status to be checked by <strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong>.<strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> does not accept Portability <strong>of</strong> Disclosures obtained through other organisations, <strong>and</strong> is currently awaitingguidance on how the Updating Service for Disclosures obtained through <strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> will work in practice.<strong>British</strong> <strong>Rowing</strong> 6 Lower Mall London W6 9DJ 020 8237 6700 www.britishrowing.org2 <strong>of</strong> 2 Revised June 2013
