Many ways to get involved!Touching the lives ofanimals and peopleVolunteers play an essential role at the shelterand in the community to educate others,encourage responsible pet ownership andshare the joy of animal companionship.Many ways to make a difference includethe donation of professional services,administrative support, assistance at events,community education and advocacy.Adoptions Assist staff in the Adoptions Center.Welcome visitors to the shelter and assist customerswho wish to adopt an animal or search theshelter for their missing pet.Admissions Assist staff in the AdmissionsCenter to welcome animals.Administrative Support Provide clericaland administrative support such as data entry,answering phones, copying, preparing materialsand word processing, as well as assist with lostand found.Advocacy Take action on animal welfareissues, legislation and laws. Contact electedofficials and organize grassroots support in favorof stronger animal protection laws and petfriendlyinitiatives throughout the community.Animal Care Care for dogs, cats, rabbits andguinea pigs, or assist in pet grooming and kennelcleaning.Animal Behavior Walk dogs and assist withanimal training and socialization. Provide supportto adopters with pet tips and advice.Education Serve as shelter tour guide,presenter, teen and youth group advisor orprogram assistant in programs for youth andadults.Foster Care Provide temporary, short orlong-term care for special needs, newborn,injured or recovering animals. Also care for petsof individuals in crisis such as owners who havebeen hospitalized or military personnel ondeployment.Pet-Friendly Disaster Shelters Assistby managing a pet-friendly emergency shelter inyour neighborhood during a natural disaster.Pet Visitation Bring your pet to visit thosein hospitals, hospice and other Oahu senior andhealth care facilities.Special Events Assist with fundraising andcommunity events as well as adoption andeducation fairs.Shelter HousekeepingAssist with a wide variety of jobs such as laundry,preparing treats for the dogs and maintenance.
