Withthe help of some of our area residents,we have secured approximately $14,000in grant funds for improvementsand a mural at Elm Park. We are alsoworking on establishing a communityfund in coordination with other areaneighborhoods and Seawall Development.At our last meeting, the Board approvedour revised bylaws. You can see thesebylaws by going to our website at www.hampdenhappenings.org.One of the big changes in the bylaws wasmoving the annual election of officersand directors to July instead of theMay meeting. As a result, we will begintaking nominations from the floor forboard and officer positions at the Maycommunity meeting. If you can not makeit to the community meeting, you canstill be nominated for a position on ourboard. Just let me know by emailing me athccpresident@gmail.com. If you let meknow by <strong>June</strong> 15th, your name will be listedwith other candidates in next month’snewsletter. If you decide after <strong>June</strong> 15th,you can still run for a position, but we willnot be able to include your information inthe newsletter. We still plan on providinga list of candidates through email and ourFacebook page.The Roosevelt Park Recreation<strong>Council</strong> will hold a fundraisingQuarter Auction on <strong>June</strong> 10, <strong>2011</strong>.To run for a Board or an Officer position,you must have paid your annual dues andattended two meeting in the previous twelvemonths from the July 25th meeting. So ifyou attend the July 25th meeting then youonly have had to attend one other meetingin the last 12 months.In order to vote in these elections, you willhave had to attend three meetings in the past12 months, including the July 25th meeting.If you can not make the July 25th meeting,we will be providing absentee ballots thisyear! We know summers are hard and somepeople will not be able to make the July 25thmeeting. We want to make sure you can stillvote. If you want an absentee ballot, emailme at hccpresident@gmail.com.This is your community and we are alwayslooking for new members for the Board.Over the past year we have had greatcontributions from our Board and we areseeing some exciting involvement from ourgeneral members. We are always looking formore assistance and we welcome new Boardmembers to help make sure we are meetingthe expectations of the community. It isour goal to have a well-diversified Boardthat has the best interest of the ENTIREneighborhood. We need your help to ensurethat the voices of all community membersare heard.clean & green teamThe Clean & Green Committee ispurchasing T-shirts to be sold at significantdiscount to the GTOT volunteers and for areasonable amount to everyone else. We will meet up at7pm in the usualspot in front of theRoyal Farms at thecorner of 36th andRoland to pick upbags and glovesand head out forthe clean-up hour.Then this time, wewill retire to HOLYFRIJOLES to recoupand refresh.”HCC Elm Ave Park UpdateLast month Adam wrote about the $9500PNC grant for the Elm Ave Park mural thatthe HCC won largely due to the efforts ofCurt Millington. This award follows on theheels of a $4000 Parks & People grant wonby the HCC for Elm Ave Park landscapingimprovements due to the efforts of SteveBaker. A steering committee has beenformed and recently met to ensure thecommunity is kept in the loop as the parkrenovation moves forward. Keep your eyeson the park throughout the summer as themural gets painted and mark your calendarfor two volunteer work party weekendsthis September 17/18 and 24/25.
