We are allexcited about our new group of which fivemembers have never been in the Red Hats!Lots of laughs were engendered getting toknow our new sisters, as well as makingplans to attend the Fall Gala, the luncheonat Belk’s and the luncheon/fashion showat Black Diamond.Our newest members will be scurryingaround town to make sure there is plentyof purple and red in their wardrobes. QMMarlene Kaiser by Marilynn CroninThe Blazing BonnetsWe enjoyed our mystery tea at the TeaPlantation last month. The restaurant wasa sea of friendly Red Hatters. We had whatwas called the “Henley Tea,” which consistsof finger sandwiches, a small sconeand a large piece of cake with whippedcream. The cake was served Red Hat styleon the plate with the sandwiches so wecould eat that first.The mystery was a true mystery. Wedidn’t have a clue who the murderer was.Come to find out it was our smiling PrincessJetta.For September, we’re going to Stumpknockersin Inverness and antique shopping.We will be carpooling with threecars carrying women in Red Hats downSR 200.On Oct. 6, we plan to take advantageof the Belk fashion show in Gainesville.This is a very nice event. The manager’smother makes all the box lunches andthere are usually purple grapes and redstrawberries on the side. Ruby Red usuallyshows up for the event so there are alot of laughs.On Oct. 18, the Red Hat Gala will behere in On Top of the World. We are lookingforward to meeting everyone.Remember; keep your hat on your headand dessert on your mind at all times. We encourage all of ourmembers to join us as it is for such a worthycause.Lois Frear chose the Ocala Ale Housefor September luncheon. She presentedeach of us with a clever notepad holder,which she made herself. This is somethingwe certainly can make use of at this timeof the year with all the activities startingup and new information to note.Madam Sweet Stuff brought her sweetsto share, which she carries in a cute basket.After lunch, we adjourned to MadamSew and Sew’s home where we focused onthe table decoration for the Fall Festival.It was great to get a lot of input; everyonewas interested and participated in sharingideas. The food was superb andPolly also told us her very interestingstory of growing up in England and comingto America and Wildwood. We were treated to the comedyof Bob O’Neal and the music from KaraokeFriends.Our purpose as a club is service andsupport. Each month a different localcharity is supported through our donationtable; our October charity is RomeoElementary School’s Halloween Round-Up. Romeo, the school that 100 Grandparentsattend, is spread out over a largerural area, which has few sidewalks.To make Halloween safe for the students,the school hosts the Halloweenparty, which includes games, prizes, parades,contests and “trick or treat” doorways!Members of our group also volunteerto man these doorways while theclowns do face painting. Suggested donationsinclude small prizes, candy, toys,and most importantly, time.One of our service tenets is met withthe continued challenge of OperationShoebox. Bonnie Salo is our chairwomanfor this committee. The raspberry containersare still located in the Health &Recreation Building at the volunteer deskand in the office of the Arbor Club.Donations are gathered weekly; at theend of the month, a carload (or more) ismoved down to the Belleview headquarters.Anyone can put donations into ourcontainers; there is a list of needed itemsattached to each container, too.While it may seem strange to list theplastic wrappers from daily newspaperdeliveries, the bags are used to fill in thesmall spaces without adding too muchweight to the packages. There is no discountfor shipping on these boxes ofnecessities! We welcome and encourageyour help, too.Volunteers are still needed for theRags to Riches sale. Drop-off items Mondaysand Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at8525-D SW 90 Lane. Gently used itemsare requested; remember we do not acceptclothing for this sale. All residentsof On Top of the World can donate theiritems here, too.Rags to Riches will be held on Friday,Oct. 23 at the Arbor Conference Centerfrom 8 a.m. to noon.We are also looking ahead to our annualFashion Show and Luncheon to benefitHospice of Marion County. More detailswill follow as the date approaches, but domark your calendars for Saturday, March13, 2010.We are continually thankful to each ofyou who do so much to keep our club active.The “behind the scenes” crews oftengo unrecognized but never unappreciated!Ladies on the refreshment committeebegin at 10:30 a.m. so that our coffee isready when members arrive; they stayafter the meeting to clean up. If you canhelp, particularly with the clean up, wewill put your willingness to work!We would also like to thank the “unsungheroes” at On Top of the World: themen and women of the maintenance department.Gary, Sam, Al, Danny, Shaunand Kim arrange the tables at 7 a.m. beforeour meetings only to return after3 p.m. to put them away. We are mostgrateful to them for moving those heavytables and numerous chairs for us!Our next meeting is Friday, Oct. 2 inthe Arbor Conference Center, Suites E, F,G and H.
