In this interview, different aspects of corporate responsibility in<strong>Iran</strong> were discussed and the trends in business ethics in <strong>Iran</strong> were put toquestion. Page 2 Volume 3One day design event<strong>CSR</strong>-DC in cooperation with Unilever <strong>Iran</strong>,and Industrial Design scientific association ofArt Faculty in University of Tehran, have helda One day design competition. the “One daydesign” event held on 6 Dec 2010 was a competitioninitiated by Industrial Design scientificassociation of Art Faculty, University of Tehran.Cooperated with both other parties, <strong>CSR</strong><strong>Iran</strong> introduced Unilever <strong>Iran</strong> and IndustrialDesign scientific association of Art Faculty toeach other and encouraged them to cooperate inholding this event with a social and environmentalconcept at the heart of the subject of thecompetition. This suggestion was accepted eagerlysince it is in line with both sides’ interests:social and environmental practices haveKayson’s <strong>CSR</strong> annual report<strong>CSR</strong> <strong>Iran</strong> revised Kayson’s <strong>CSR</strong> annual report.This report will be included in their EFQMmodel framework. As <strong>CSR</strong> is becoming a majorsubject considered in EFQM assessments, theybelieve this report would help them in obtaininga high grade in this assessment. Kayson is a huge<strong>Iran</strong>-based multinational construction companyand the first to publish such a report in <strong>Iran</strong>.high priority in Unilever’s<strong>CSR</strong> strategy,and considering theseissues are essential forindustrial design students.300 studentsfrom the whole countryregistered to attendthe competition. Coreconcept of the designcompetition is hygieneand social and environmentalresponsibilitiesare among keyfactors that should beconsidered.Knowledge sharingSession<strong>CSR</strong><strong>Iran</strong> hold two discussionsession regarding to CorporateGovernance<strong>CSR</strong>-DC has started someweekly knowledge sharing anddiscussion sessions. The twolatest sessions were on“Introduction to CorporateG o v e r n a n c e ” a n d “Comparative discussion on the<strong>Iran</strong>ian’s corporate law withOECD CG principles”.ISO 26000 workshops“<strong>CSR</strong> <strong>Iran</strong>” and “The <strong>CSR</strong> Company” jointly held two workshops on Aug4th and 5th, 2010. Mobarakeh steel Co.-which is a leading company in<strong>Iran</strong>’s steel industry– was the host of the first workshop and the secondworkshop was an open one in which participants from private sector, academiaand public sector attended. The workshops main themes includedoverview of the evolution of <strong>CSR</strong>, ISO 26000 structure and sections, itscore principles and topics, and its implementation. F&Q discussions werefruitful and reflected the growing interest and awareness in <strong>CSR</strong> filed in<strong>Iran</strong> which was admired by the lecturers.<strong>CSR</strong> Workshop<strong>CSR</strong>-DC’s president had a oneday workshop in Follad-Khozestan on <strong>CSR</strong> in theEFQM model. This was thesixth workshop held on <strong>CSR</strong>related subjects in the company.

The conferencewas conducted by PICG,<strong>CSR</strong>-DC’s regional partner andlatest trends on CG in Pakistanwere introduced and discussed.Workshop on corporate practicesin family owned businesses<strong>CSR</strong>-DC just conducted its first workshopon “Corporate Practices in FamilyOwned Businesses” in collaborationwith PICG. Though being the first in aseries the participants were from thebiggest and most prominent of familyowned businesses in <strong>Iran</strong>.President of <strong>CSR</strong> <strong>Iran</strong>delivered a speech on“the role of Human ResourceManagement in<strong>CSR</strong>” in Shiraz’s HumanResources EmpowermentSeminar, October2010. Most of theparticipants were fromthe public sector andgovernmental organizations.Corporate Governance Regional project<strong>CSR</strong>-DC is in the midst of an ongoing regional and international project on corporate governance. Theaim of this project is primarily to promote and enhance CG practices by developing and making availablevarious CG toolkits, tailored specifically for the <strong>Iran</strong>ian’s market need. In this regard a brand newportal will shortly be rolled out in which the toolkits would be available and free to all that are interestedand a series of more than 20 workshops are to be conducted / the First of which was last week’sCG in Family Owned Businesses. <strong>Partner</strong>s from Turkey (TKYD), Pakistan (PICG) and Kosovo(RiInvest) are collaborating on this project.<strong>CSR</strong> and welfare Organization<strong>Iran</strong>’s welfare week was a busy weekfor <strong>CSR</strong> <strong>Iran</strong>. two <strong>CSR</strong> events whereheld in cooperation with <strong>Iran</strong>s welfareOrganization. These events wherealigned with one of <strong>CSR</strong> <strong>Iran</strong>’s strategicapproaches which is cross-sectorpartnership promotion in the businesscommunity. More than thirty differentorganizations participated in thesetwo events some of which was MehrFinancial Institute, RailNiroo, Kayson,Saipa,...<strong>CSR</strong>-DC: CorporateGovernanceThe Corporate GovernanceDivision of <strong>CSR</strong>-DC is alive and kicking.In fact since the lastyear’s CG division’sinfancy steps, it has beengoing through an exponentialboom. Theevent was under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talaland took place by the Dead Sea, Jordan on 23rd and 24th of November2010.A regional cooperation formed between four of the participatingorganizations From Saudi Arabia, Jordan, <strong>Iran</strong> and Bahrain. The"Earth Charter Youth MENA" Initiative will combine the resourcesof the participating organizations to develop a youth centred initiativeto promote the Earth Charter in the region.Privatization Performance Report<strong>CSR</strong>-DC has finalized its study on <strong>Iran</strong>’s privatization initiative.the primary aim of this study is empowering the private sector byhelping the executive and legislative bodies with suggestions onenhancing the quality and fostering the pace of privatization. forthis, the 20 years old privatization initiative has been thoroughlystudied and different responsible individuals and bodies have beeninterviewed.CG Country Report<strong>CSR</strong><strong>Iran</strong> has initiated a study merely focusing on CG practicesamong <strong>Iran</strong>ian corporations. the main goal is to understand thestrong and weak aspects of CG in <strong>Iran</strong> which in turn will help intailoring toolkits and guidelines that are to be developed for the<strong>Iran</strong> market. We havelaunched our page onFacebook and you canfind good news and material,regarding our activitiesboth related to <strong>CSR</strong>and CG, on it.<strong>CSR</strong>-DC prepared the <strong>CSR</strong> Strategy guides of TUGA one of the largest producerof gas turbines in the middle east. After assessing the companies current state on<strong>CSR</strong> by the <strong>CSR</strong>-DC model, a stakeholder identification and analysis was carriedon which led to a gap analysis. The <strong>CSR</strong> strategies were developed in focus meetingsand finally an action plan was drafted. As one of the main subsidiaries of theMAPNA Group, the company has been established in 1999 to seize the outstandingopportunity of domestic power generation demand by manufacture andsupply of turbines and auxiliary equipment. Having started the first manufacturingoperations in early 2002, during the last decade TUGA has continuously investedin capacity development to respond the ever-increasing demands.
