Primarily intendedfor manufacturers of hazardous area equipment for use in thepresence of flammable gases, vapours, fumes or dusts, thenew directive requires a quality management system to beimplemented.Procedures for design, manufacture and verification ofproducts are to be approved by a notified body (i.e. INERIS,etc…) and all equipment conforming to the new directive willfeature CE and epsiolon Ex.Zone Classification with the presence of DUSTZone 21Zone 22An area in which an explosive atmosphere in theform of a cloud of combustible dust in air is likelyto occur in normal operation of the plant.A place in which an explosive atmosphere inthe form of a cloud of combustible dust in air isnot likely to occur in normal operation, if it doesoccur, will persist for a short period only.Applicable EX protectionEEx e Protectionfor electrical components that do not sparkunder normal working conditions but wheremeasures are applied to prevent hightemperatures and the occurence of arcs andsparks internally.EEx d ProtectionParts, which can ignite a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere, are surrounded by anenclosure, which are designed to withstandthe pressure of an internal explosion and toprevent the propagation of the explosion tothe atmosphere surrounding the enclosure.EEx m ProtectionParts that could ignite a potentially explosiveatmosphere by means of heat or sparks areembedded in a sealing compound such thatthe potentially explosive atmosphere cannotbe ignited.
