<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Works</strong>The <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Works</strong> Department, the largest <strong>City</strong> Department with 70 authorized (59funded) positions, strives to provide outstanding service and a superb quality <strong>of</strong> lifethat the residents <strong>of</strong> the community have come to value and expect. Total budgetfor <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Works</strong> operations and maintenance during FY12/13 is $6,359,300,excluding capital improvement expenses.The Street Maintenance Division supports the most employees in <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Works</strong>. Inaddition to routine daily services for maintenance <strong>of</strong> public rights-<strong>of</strong>-way andparking lots, traffic and street signage, storm sewers and catch basins, streetsweeping, and snow removal, the Street Maintenance Division is responsible forthe maintenance <strong>of</strong> 125 centerline miles <strong>of</strong> street pavement and rights-<strong>of</strong>way.Street Maintenance is also responsible for 83 miles <strong>of</strong> storm sewer pipe and2,200 catch basins. The Department maintains ten publicly-owned storm-waterbasins and/or ponds. By comparison, there are over 100 privately-owned stormwaterbasins and/or ponds in the <strong>City</strong>.The Parks Division oversees maintenance on 550 acres <strong>of</strong> parkland at 23 differentlocations throughout the community. Within these parks sites are four baseballfields, sixteen s<strong>of</strong>tball and youth baseball fields, eight soccer fields, nine tenniscourts, nine basketball courts, a youth football field, and 14 separate playgroundareas. Employees also provide support and assistance annually for an average <strong>of</strong>31 Community and <strong>City</strong>-sponsored events, 18 block parties, 193 picnic pavilionreservations, 2,054 scheduled ball games, and 463 scheduled soccer games.
