The USEPA primary and secondary MCLs have been established for treated drinking water atthe delivery point. A MCL is the maximum permissible level of a contaminant in drinking water, which is delivered to any user of a public water system. A public water system is defined as atleast 15 service connections or a system that regularly serves an average of 25 individuals.Although MCLs are commonly used as a benchmark for private water supplies, it should benoted that the USEPA and the SRAs do not have authority to regulate private drinking waterwells.
