Jay Glova. I:Iddd01aJay Glover Eldridge, dean of the university faculty,was once the one and only dean at Idaho,directing all the departments at that hme. Duringhis deanship he devised the present systemof grading and the recording system used by theRegistrar of the university.At Yale, Dean Eldridge received his Ph.D.degree, as well as his B.A. and M.A. degrees.Having been in continuous, uninterruptedservice longer than any other member of thepresent faculty, Dean Eldridge has been impressedby the growth in size and reputation ofthe University of Idaho during his 36 years as anactive member of the faculty. He is the head ofthe foreign languages department.Further expansion of the "gUidance program,"whereby an instructor devotes part of his time toorient those students doing unsatisfactory workin the Junior College, is the aim of Dean ThomasS. Kerr."Inaugurated this year, the guidance programshowed remarkable results in improving the workof poorer students," said Dean Kerr. "Next yearwe expect to expand the program still further."Dean Kerr, who received his LL.B. degree fromthe University of Michigan, joined the Idaho facultyin 1924, became dean of the Junior Collegein 1929, and this year has managed the largestenrollment of any division in the university-700students.PAGE 28
