Positioning of the machine is critical to prevent impact from falling and wind blown droppedmaterial.SAFE WORKINGProper Use of the MEWPA MEWP is designed to provide a temporary plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> persons, their tools and equipment and togive them access to the <strong>work</strong> place. It must not be used as a crane by suspending a load beneath theplat<strong>for</strong>m using slings or any other type of lifting gear.Operation of the plat<strong>for</strong>m is your responsibility. You must never allow an unauthorised person tooperate or interfere with the controls.Always engage the controls gently and smoothly. Always enter and leave the <strong>work</strong> plat<strong>for</strong>m when itis in its fully lowered position, using the steps or walkways designed <strong>for</strong> that purpose.A MEWP must not be travelled with the boom extended or plat<strong>for</strong>m raised unless it is specificallydesigned to be used in this way.If you are <strong>work</strong>ing in an area used by other <strong>work</strong>ers or vehicles, make sure that the whole of your<strong>work</strong> area is barricaded using cones, warning signs and tapes.Never lean materials or tools against the outside of the plat<strong>for</strong>m. If <strong>for</strong>gotten they will fall when theplat<strong>for</strong>m is moved. The machine must never be used as a jack, prop or a tie to support otherstructures or machines.Never interfere with, wedge or override hydraulic, electrical or mechanical safety devices orcontrols.Be<strong>for</strong>e and during the raising or lowering of the plat<strong>for</strong>m, always check <strong>for</strong> the possibility of hittingobstructions or persons.You must never use guard rails, ladders, or similar items to extend your reach or height <strong>for</strong> anypurpose. Your feet must be kept firmly on the deck of the plat<strong>for</strong>m at all times.You must always be particularly careful not to allow tools and equipment striking or interferingwith the controls of the machine.Do not use the machine to tow another vehicle unless it specifically designed and equipped <strong>for</strong> thispurpose.Self-propelled machines should never be towed. This can cause serious mechanical damage andrecovery should only be undertaken under the direction of the owner or according to themanufacturers’ instructions.Travelling with the Operator on an Elevated Plat<strong>for</strong>mTravelling with the plat<strong>for</strong>m of a MEWP occupied and raised should only be undertaken when themachine is specifically designed to be used in this way.50
