Project DetailsAdvertisement for recruitment to the post ofRegional and District Citizen Consumer Club CoordinatorsThe Department of Consumer Affairs in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and PublicDistribution, the nodal department in the Central Government to deal with various maters related tothe protection and welfare of the consumers in the country, has taken a number of measures topromote a strong and broad based consumer protection movement in the country. In order to nonformatpro-active system of imparting consumer education to the school children, GOI has decidedto set up consumer clubs on the pattern of Eco clubs in schools. Consumer clubs will enablestudents to involve themselves in various consumer welfare and protection activities GOI havesanctioned financial assistance at the rate of Rs.10,0007- per club which has to be shared at theratio of 8:2 between the school and Voluntary Consumer Organization who are responsible to coordinatewith each other for formation and functioning of consumer clubs.Overall, consumer clubs established in 1000 schools and in 500 colleges of Tamil Nadu underPhase I, II and III programme are functioning well.Establishment of consumer clubs in schools have yielded good results. Students are showingkeep interest and are actively participating in out-reach camps to spread consumer education andawareness messages among rural masses in the surrounding areas of their educationalinstitutions. Consequent upon good performance of consumer clubs, Government of Tamil Naduhave decided to extend the scope of consumer clubs in all educational institutions i.e., inSecondary & Higher Secondary schools, Arts & Science Colleges, Medical Colleges, EngineeringColleges, Polytechnic Colleges, I.T.I.s, Nursing Colleges, Pharmach Colleges, Teacher TrainingInstitutions, etc,,In order to build consumer movement through formation and facilitation of consumer clubs inschools, collges and other educational institutions and for facilitation in developing into resourcegroups, Tamil Nadu State Society for Consumer Protection and Empowerment (TANSSCOPE) aGovernment Society, is looking to recruit motivated Regional Citizen Consumer Club (CCC) Coordinators.The project is scheduled for a period from June 2010 to May 2011 for a total of uptotwelve months. After a period of one year, the project is likely to be extended for another twoyears.

I. Regional CCC Co-ordinatorsNo: of Position : 4Location : Chennai, Madura!, Tiruchy and CoimbatoreAge : >30 and Academic Degree (preferably Masters) in Commerce, Economics, Law, SocialScience or similar (desirable)=> At least five years experience in project managerment including staff management,budget responsibility and accounting, progress reports etc.=> Experience with International donors would be a plus.=> Excellent communication skills and experience in designing and implementingpublic awareness campaigns.=> Knowledge of consumer protection and environmental protection issues would bepreferred.=> Outstanding skills in English language both spoken and written as well as in Tamil.=> Sound IT skills and the ability to talk and type with appropriate speed and accuracy.^> Proven service orientation.=> Ability to absorb training which will be prepared by TANSSCOPE.Job responsibilities:=$ Visiting all educational institutions in all districts comes under region to motivatethem to form Citizen Consumer club.=> Mobilise and facilitate opening of Citizen consumer clubs in 100% of Colleges, ITIsPolytechnics etc. in 1 year.=> Ensure functional, effective and student-driven functioning of Citizen consumerclubs in each College.=> Staff Management and students coaching for effective running of Citizen Consumerclub.=> Conduct district level Annual Workshops every year for Citizen Consumer Club Coordinationin June to prepare Annual Action Plan in collaboration with DistrictSupply and Consumer Protection Officer / District Citizen Consumer Club Coordinators.
