association is not contrary to the ACP mandate. PAC has refocused as a professionalorganization, rather than a membership association.Q: Is there a set limit that we pay to PAC?A: Contributions from the College are set by the Board of Directors of PAC. Right now,its $10. The benevolent trust will be spun off from PAC, as it’s a membership service andshould be separate and distinct.Tom Jahelka spoke against the motion. PAC is moving towards regulatory function, anddivesting from PAC isn’t our best option. We need to meet, discuss and decide on thedirection.Richard Boone spoke against the motion.Tim Essington spoke for the motion, not to speak against PAC, but wishing to have achoice as to which association he joins. At present he doesn’t have that option. Currentmembership doesn’t give him the ability to vote at PAC’s AGM, which makes himquestion the value of his PAC membership at present.Linda Coghill moved to table this matter until the next AGM. Parliamentarian DanOsborne agreed it was in order. This would offer a time period for ACP Council tonegotiate and discuss these issues with PAC, allowing practitioners to revisit the motionnext year without compromising comments made on either side.Motion: That the motion to have ACP divest itself from financial contributions to theParamedic Association of Canada be tabled until next year’s AGM.Moved/SecondedCARRIEDMotion: That ACP investigate a staggered registration renewal deadline over thecalendar year, once ACP is proclaimed under the Health Professions Act.Moved/SecondedCARRIEDThe mover stated there is undue financial pressure on registrants to pay these fees late inthe year near Christmas. The Registrar was asked if this would cause administrativeproblems, and advised that this would be a welcome change at the College.Q: How many times a year would these fees would be collected?A: The CEO/Registrar asked that her hands not be tied to commit to the details, as shehasn’t yet researched the matter.Q: Regarding the first aiders calling themselves medics, and OH&S not taking seriouslythe concerns being raised by practitioners, is the College in a position to address the termsmisused in the field?A: We are trying to deal with it proactively, to identify where the issues are, and to rectifythem ahead of time. This is in our strategy plans, and we will be re-engaging with AH&Wand OH&S with respect to the issue of advanced first aiders and EMRs who are advised bytheir employers that they don’t need to register. We will continue to work on it over thecoming months.P:\2.
