Thedamage caused by cytotoxic agents causes destruction of the alveolar and interstitialepithelium, making capillary exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide difficult, Alveolitis,interstitial pneumonitis and fibrosis can occur, which reduces the functional residualcapacity and elasticity of the lungs.
