2. INTRODUCTION ● Planning for Renewable Energy in Worcestershire●●Renewable energy can be costeffective, especially when grantassisted, and has the potential to helpalleviate fuel poverty.Renewable energy generation canprovide valued economic activity in theplanning, production, supply andmaintenance of equipment andmaterials.2.8 There already exist successfulexamples of renewable and low-carbonenergy projects throughoutWorcestershire.●●At County Hall, a 700kWwoodchip-fuelled boiler providescentral heating, using locally-sourcedwoodfuel (see Fig. 2);A pilot project has been set up atMalvern's Chase Technology Collegeto run a boiler on a 20% bio-diesel fuelmix (see Fig. 3);●●●The Pumphouse Environment Centreuses ground-source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and micro-windturbines;Redditch's Arrow Valley CountrysideCentre also boasts micro-windturbines, solar hot water panels, and awood-burning stove;Redhill School in Worcester, designedto be carbon-neutral, utilises groundsourceheat pumps and micro-windturbines to generate renewable energy.2.9 The projects outlined above are, however, very much the exception, anduptake of renewables in the County atboth individual building andcommunity/decentralised levels has thepotential to be greatly increased.Fig. 2.
