) How l<strong>on</strong>g will I have to wait until the next service?c) Will I get a seat <strong>on</strong> the next service?d) How will I know where to catch the <strong>on</strong>ward service?e) How far will I have to walk?f) What facilities are there at the point of interchange?g) How safe will I be?Whether these c<strong>on</strong>cerns are real or perceived will depend <strong>on</strong> pers<strong>on</strong>alexperience but in any event there is likely to be an added time penaltyto the journey where interchange is involved in order to compensatefor these real or imaginary c<strong>on</strong>cerns.3.3.2 Variati<strong>on</strong>s between users and n<strong>on</strong> usersThere are inevitably clear variati<strong>on</strong>s both between different categoriesof passengers and also with n<strong>on</strong> users of <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Transport</strong>.For example, frequent travellers including commuters will holddifferent views and percepti<strong>on</strong>s than occasi<strong>on</strong>al or leisure travellers.Passengers with any combinati<strong>on</strong> of luggage or shopping or childrenand buggies will hold different percepti<strong>on</strong>s than single unencumberedtravellers.Likewise, there will be different views held by the elderly or mobilityimpaired.Women, for example, will be more c<strong>on</strong>cerned with pers<strong>on</strong>al safety andsecurity issues in their overall percepti<strong>on</strong> of interchange.N<strong>on</strong> users of <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Transport</strong> will also hold differing views withintheir category but in general would be less likely to switch, forexample from car to <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Transport</strong>, where interchange is involvedand even less likely to do so if that interchange experience whether realor imaginary is unsatisfactory. The design and operati<strong>on</strong> ofinterchanges may therefore significantly influence these physicalexperiences and psychological reacti<strong>on</strong>s.7
