HeadersThe plug header is the most commonly used up to250 bar working pressureThe cover plate header is used for fluids with highfouling factors up to 30 bars when a frequentmechanical cleaning is necessary.The pipe header is used for working pressure over200 bars when no inner access is necessary.The welded bonnet header is used for ammoniacondensers and aircooled steam condensers. Theadvantage is the full welded constructions,suitable for vacuum applications.11

TOTINGDesign of HeadersDesign ofTOTING is an in-house developedsoftware which can generatepreliminary engineering at anearly stage of the project.■ In-house developed finite elementcalculation methods certified byASME authorised inspection agenciesare used for header design as perASME VIII div.1 App. 13.■Arrangement drawings andloading data can be submittedto the customer during the preengineeringphase to optimizethe plant cost.■ Finite Element specific softwaresand models are used for nozzlestress analysis under pipingloads.■ Bill of materials allows us tooptimize our cost calculation.■ The detail engineering phase canbe launched immediately afterorder placement.14

steel structure for AFC and ACCDesign of the auxiliaries for ACC■ From the GAD issued by TOTING weare able to generate a 3 D model inorder to perform the calculation ofthe structural steel using STAAD pro ®software. This model is then exportedto X-steel ® software to issue 3 D drawingsand shop drawings.■ This integrated design process willensure the manufacturing of the steelstructure and will allow us to producecalculation data when requested.■ Basic and detailed engineering for auxiliaryequipments are carried out under oneroof by a dedicated team of specialistsusing the latest state of the art.15

Manufacturing facilitiesAll GEA Btt’s facilities include all the required machinery and know how to insure that the complete bundles are manufactured toa quality standard and to schedule.Headers manufacturing has been substantially improvedover the years with the use of modern manufacturingtechniques, CNC equipment and bar coding systems.GEA Btt is highly experienced in special designusing exotic materials (such as Titanium, Monel,Incolloy...) for special services (very toxic, lethal...).Tubes manufacturing is performed with in-houseimproved machinery for extruded fins and latestavailable technology for wrap-on fins.17
