YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ASSETS IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTThis final section provides results from the CHKS on youth development assets in the schoolenvironment. SFUSD administers the Youth Development module of the CHKS every twoyears to students in the 9 th and 11 th grades. Youth development researchers emphasize theimportance of providing support and opportunities (external assets) in the form of caringrelationships, high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful participation within theschool environment. The development of assets within the school community improveshealth outcomes and academic performance. The following charts show the percentage ofSFUSD 9 th and 11 th students who scored “high” on school environment factors.
