Lumberton Extended Day Care
Lumberton’s Extended Day Care Program offers before and after-school care for children
within the Lumberton School District from kindergarten through eighth grade. The program
provides safe, affordable and convenient day care, with academic enrichment, Monday
through Friday on the days school is in session. The following provides answers to some
common questions about Lumberton Extended Day Care. ©
Who is eligible for the program?
Any student who attends the Florence L.
Walther School, Ashbrook Elementary School,
Bobby’s Run School or Lumberton Middle
School may attend Lumberton EDC.
What times may children attend?
EDC hours allow parents or guardians to drop
off children as early as 6:30 a.m. EDC closes at
6 p.m. All children may use EDC before or after
school, but not during their school session.
Kindergarten students may also use EDC before
or after their half-day school sessions.
Is EDC open every day?
EDC is open Monday through Friday when
school is in session. EDC is not open on weekends,
scheduled school holidays, unexpected
days off, or during the summer months.
Where does EDC meet?
Children in grades K-1 attend Lumberton EDC
at the Walther School, while children in grades
2-3 attend Lumberton EDC at Ashbrook Elementary
School. Students in grades 4-8 attend
Lumberton EDC at the Bobby’s Run School.
How large are EDC groups?
The size of each group attending EDC depends

on the days and times children are enrolled. EDC
staff members supervise groups of approximately
10-12 children.
Where and how do I drop off or pick up
my child?
Parents or guardians dropping off or picking up
children should come to the EDC site in which
their child(ren) is enrolled. Anyone who drops off
or picks up a child must sign that child in or out
every day. Anyone authorized to pick up a child
must be listed on the child’s pick-up form.
Children will not be released to anyone who is
not listed on the form, or without proper I.D.
What programs does EDC offer?
Lumberton EDC is a program that offers quality
day care in a supervised setting. Lumberton
EDC participants may participate in enrichment
activities that support their school curriculum.
Students who attend EDC during the school day
participate in Enrichment Centers to extend their
classroom learning experiences. After school
hours, children are given the opportunity to do
homework in the library with support from an
EDC staff member. Children also have the
chance to participate in supervised crafts, sports
and free play, and to work on life skills, such as
sharing and manners.
Who supervises my child?
Each EDC location has a number of qualified
aides, as well as one on-site supervisor. Most
staff work the same schedule in the morning or
in the afternoon. This helps to assure that the
children interact with the same morning aides
and site supervisor, and the same afternoon aides
and site supervisor. All staff are CPR- and First
Aid-certified
Does my child need to go to EDC every
day in order to be eligible to attend?
Children may attend EDC every day during the
week, a few days during the week, or a few
days each month.The program can be used fulltime
or on an as-needed basis.
What are the fees for EDC?
EDC is funded through parental tuition. Payments
can be made weekly or monthly, but must
be made at least one week in advance. Late
payments are subject to a $5 per day late fee.
Families enrolling children in EDC pay an annual
registration fee of $50 for new registrants and
$40 for returning familes. Families receive a 20
percent sibling discount after paying full tuition
for the first child, if more than one child in the
family uses EDC every day of the week.
What happens to a child after 6 p.m.?
Parents are encouraged to make every effort to
pick up children before closing. Anyone who
arrives after 6 p.m. will be charged an additional
fee, as outlined in the parent handbook.
