The Division has recognized national leadership in research, healthpolicy, and advocacy regarding racial and ethnic disparities in children’s healthand healthcare, and in improving access to and quality of care for underservedpopulations of children.In 2011, division faculty supervised the care of more than 9,300 patients seenby pediatric residents in the Resident Continuity Clinic. Clinical ActivitiesThe Division of <strong>General</strong> <strong>Pediatrics</strong> provides both inpatient and outpatient care at Children’s Medical Center. Division facultymembers staff both the inpatient teaching service and provide outpatient care and consultation in nine specialized clinicsand at Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic, where four residents and two attending physicians provided care in 2011.Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) ClinicThrough healthcare delivery, education and research, the AYA Clinic seeks to improve adolescent health. Staffed by physicianswho have a special interest and training in adolescent and sports medicine, this clinic provides primary and specialty careservices for patients 11 to 21 years old, and welcomes referrals from community physicians and healthcare clinics.Referral Evaluation of At Risk Children (REACH) ProgramThe REACH Program provides outpatient medical evaluations for child-abuse diagnosis, prevention and treatment,as well as inpatient and emergency department consultations in cases of suspected child abuse. Medical follow-up andnetworking with a variety of state and local agencies and social services are offered through the REACH Program.Foster Care ClinicThe Foster Care Clinic provides placement exams, medical homes, and pre-adoption physicals for children from infancyto 19 years old living in out-of-home placement due to child abuse and neglect. Dr. Anu Partap, Alexandria Coverson, LilyIteld, Angela Moten, Laura Rowley, and PNPs Sandra Arthur and Mary Pat Glazier work closely with foster parents, fosteragencies, CPS, court systems and the REACH Team to optimize each child’s health, healthcare, safety and well-being.Resident Continuity ClinicPediatric residents receive training in primary care in the Resident Continuity Clinic, providing comprehensive careunder the supervision of division faculty to both well and chronically ill children. The Clinic also is the setting formany clinical studies. This state-of-the-art clinic includes technologies that maximize the educational experience forresidents and improve care for patients.Acute Care Clinic (First Care)First Care evaluates acute, nonemergency patients. Division physicians supervise pediatric residents and supporteducational objectives through patient care, informal lectures and teaching conferences.Pediatric Diagnostic and Consultation ClinicThe Pediatric Diagnostic and Consultation Clinic cares for patients referred by primary-care physicians and specialists.Division faculty conduct comprehensive evaluations and diagnoses of patients and make recommendations for treatmentand referrals back to primary-care physicians and specialists.Medical Student Teaching ClinicThe Medical Student Teaching Clinic evaluates selected acute, nonemergency patients while providing outstandingsupervised learning experiences for medical students rotating through the outpatient component of their pediatricclerkship.
