2TEACHING AND LEARNING<strong>Tangaroa</strong> <strong>College</strong> Newsletter: 5th April, <strong>2013</strong>Drama.The Year 12 Drama Class went to the Auckland PerformingArts Centre on the 22nd of March to see anexample of physical theatre and to strengthen <strong>Tangaroa</strong><strong>College</strong>’s relationship with the Arts Community.Students are currently working on AS2.4, creatinga piece of physical theatre, to be performed inApril.The Year 13 Drama Class went to the Basement Theatreon the 26th of March to see an example of solotheatre and to learn ways of approaching solo performance.The students are doing solo performancesfor the first time this term for AS 3.1.English.Art Exhibition.A student Art Exhibition will be held in the StaffRoom on the 19 th of April from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.Some of the art will be auctioned on the evening.This will be an opportunity to see and appreciateart produced by the students.Science.Year 13 Biology students went to the Liggins Institutein Park Road Grafton to study the biological implicationsof manipulating genetic material in the ScienceLaboratories. Students are required to beable to describe two ways humans can alter DNA.A big thank you goes to Mrs Thompson, a parent,who accompanied us and assisted with supervision.The year 13 English students went to the University ofAuckland on the 23 rd of March to see the ShakespeareProduction - “King Lear”. This helped thestudents’ engagement and interest in a play thatcould be used for their literacy research as a visualtext. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the studentsenjoyed being part of a classical experience.Botany Youth MP <strong>2013</strong> Speech Competition.On Monday the 25 th of March, Shavon Robson representedthe school at the Botany Youth MP <strong>2013</strong>Speech Competition. Her speech was based ondemocracy in New Zealand. First prize was $500.00and selection as the Botany Youth M.P. who willrepresent the electorate at the Youth Parliamenton the 16 th and 17 th of July.The Competition was won by a student from Howick<strong>College</strong>, Shavon was placed 4th and won$50.00. Senior Leaders’ Dinner.This is to be held on Wednesday the 17 th April in the<strong>College</strong> Staff Room. It is an opportunity for the SeniorLeaders and their parents to acknowledge thework accomplished and to recognise the commitmentand determination the Leaders have in theirfinal year at <strong>College</strong>.Mega Crew Hip Hop Dance Troupe.The Mega School Hip Hop Competition will be heldon Friday 26 th April at the Victoria Convention Centrein Freemans Bay.
