Accessories (Contd.)Bolt-on JacketsJacketing of Relief Valves:Consolidated valve offers simple solutions to your heatingproblems: Bolt-on Jackets.Viscous materials that freeze or harden in relief valve nozzlescreate hazardous conditions. Process pipe jacketing ortracing may not provide sufficient heat to the area in andaround the relief valve seat. During a pressure surge, some ofthe solid materials may stick in and around the seating area, keeping the valve from functioning and re-seating properly. This would result in leakage around the valve seating surface. The solution to this problem is the Bolt-on Jacket. This jacketis a two piece aluminum casting with a steel pressurechamber embedded in the aluminum jacket casting. Thepressure chamber is fabricated of standard pressure vesselmaterials for various heating fluids and service temperatures. The chamber is designed and tested in accordance with theASME B & PVC, Section VIII, Div. I. The jacket castingconducts heat from the pressure chamber and rapidlydistributes it evenly over the outer surface of the relief valve. The aluminum casting distributes heat only. It carries nopressure load at any time. Heating fluid is transferred fromone half of the jacket to the other by an external connector. Athin layer of heat transfer cement is used between the jacketand the relief valve to promote effective heat transfer by fillingany air gaps between the jacket and the relief valve.Bolt-on Jacket halves bolt together for quick installation andunbolt for ready access to the relief valve for easy maintenance. The jackets cover the jacket fully from flange to flangeproviding uniform heat to all process wetted surfaces.Standard service ratings for the jacket are 150 psig and500°F. Higher ratings are available upon request.Bolt-on Jackets may be ordered with adjacent flange coverageand with a variety of heating medium connections. CanadianRegistration is available for all provinces.Bolt-on Jackets are operating successfully on relief valves inmany different process service applications world wide.Customers should consider jacketing the relief valveswhenever the adjacent vessel or piping is heated in somemanner. The following lists process applications that typicallyrequire jacketing of the relief valve:• Acrylic Acid • Phosphorous• Ammonium Nitrate • Polypropylene• Coal Tars • Polystyrene Resins• Caprolactam • Phthalic Anhydride• Cyanuric Chloride • Sulphuric Acid• DMT • Sulphur Dioxide• DNT • Some Surfactants• Fluoropolymers • Tall Oils• LLDPE • TMA• OlefinsTypical Bolt-on JacketTo ensure we provide the proper jacket coverage;please answer the following questions:(1) Is the process operating at elevatedtemperatures?(2) What is the process?(3) What is the temperature of the processbeing maintained?(4) What heating medium is being used in yourjacket? What pressure and temperature isthis medium?(5) What type of jacket connections arerequired?(6) How is the temperature being maintainedon the process piping and other equipment(valves, pumps, meters, etc.)?The relief valve will probably need a Bolt-onJacket if it is operating in one of the processservices listed above or if the adjacent pipingand equipment is heated.Contact the Factory for assistance.1900 Series Safety Relief Valve | 1900.51
