<strong>Program</strong> Description:Using active Light Detection <strong>and</strong> Ranging (LIDAR) technology, the Artemis will be a real-time, st<strong>and</strong>off detection system for chemical agentcontamination monitoring <strong>and</strong> avoidance, as well as for dewarning <strong>and</strong> indicating areas for decontamination. The use of a st<strong>and</strong>off systemallows for advance warning of a chemical agent attack. The system will detect chemical agent aerosols, vapor, <strong>and</strong> surface contamination, <strong>and</strong>gives precise ranging information. Enhanced early warning from this st<strong>and</strong>off system will allow the warfighter to avoid contaminated areas ordon full protective equipment if avoidance is not possible, thus maximizing the warfighters ability to complete the mission.<strong>FY00</strong> Accomplishments:• Initiated Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) <strong>and</strong> Concept Exploration (CE).FY01 Objectives:• Continue CE <strong>and</strong> complete AoA.FY<strong>02</strong> Objectives:• Complete performance specification <strong>and</strong> update the Acquisition Strategy, Acquisition Plan, Acquisition <strong>Program</strong> Baseline, <strong>and</strong> Comm<strong>and</strong>,Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance <strong>and</strong> Reconnaissance Support (C4ISR) Plan. Finalize <strong>and</strong> issue Request forProposal (RFP), conduct source selection for prototype development contractor, conduct Alternative Systems Review of draft system workbreakdown structure, preliminary functional baseline, <strong>and</strong> draft system specification.• Finalize Systems Architecture <strong>and</strong> Systems Specification through a <strong>Joint</strong> Systems Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT).• Update Simulation Based Acquisition Strategy <strong>and</strong> Simulation Support Plan to identify the effective use of modeling <strong>and</strong> simulationthroughout the system life cycle. Update/validate the virtual prototype model to support design of early prototype system. Evaluate infraredspectra scene generator equipment in support of virtual testing.• Conduct, as an integral part of the systems engineering process, a supportability analysis. Conduct initial <strong>Joint</strong> Training Planning ProcessMethodology <strong>and</strong> develop initial <strong>Joint</strong> System Training Plan.
