The <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> is approximately 46 square miles, composed mostly of farml<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> estuaries. Castroville, Elkhorn, Moss L<strong>and</strong>ing, Oak Hills <strong>and</strong>Rancho Moro Cojo residential neighborhoods lie within the <strong>District</strong>’s boundaries.The <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> was formed in 1954 as a special district from a local voter initiative. <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong>s provide recreationalopportunities as a local government function within a specific boundary <strong>and</strong> provide services at the highest levels of accountability <strong>and</strong> responsibility to the public. Our district isgoverned by a board of directors (5), appointed for fixed terms, <strong>and</strong> are directly accountable to the public. Directors are members of the community <strong>and</strong> are continuallyinteracting within the framework of community agencies <strong>and</strong> activities.Funding for the <strong>District</strong> comes from the following sources: property taxes (a percentage of the “one percent” property tax); program fees <strong>and</strong> charges; assessment districts;local, state <strong>and</strong> federal grants; <strong>and</strong> donations. The <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> maintains <strong>and</strong> operates the following recreational facilities <strong>and</strong> parks:The <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> Center <strong>and</strong> Center <strong>Park</strong> is located at 11261 Crane Street <strong>and</strong> is the hub of the <strong>District</strong>.The Center has an indoor basketball court, meeting room, a large kitchen, a large BBQ pit. The Center is the home ofthe Castroville Senior Center, After School Programs, <strong>and</strong> the <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> Farmers’ Market. The Center is open tothe public at no charge during regular hours (9am-6pm). You can play a variety of sports in the gym area. Sportsequipment <strong>and</strong> games can be checked out through the office. The meeting room is open for specialty classes <strong>and</strong>homework. The Center <strong>Park</strong> hosts a children’s play area, basketball courts (2), a community skate park, <strong>and</strong> a lawnarea.Cato Phillips <strong>Park</strong> is located on Wood Street in Castroville. This is a park with a basketball court, play area, <strong>and</strong> picnictables.Crane Street <strong>Park</strong> is located at the end of Crane Street overlooking the artichoke fields on the East Side of town. Thispark has a children’s play area, a picnic table with a BBQ pit, <strong>and</strong> a large grass area. The park was built with theassistance of the Monterey <strong>County</strong> Redevelopment Agency.Discounted rates availablefrom December 10 th <strong>2013</strong> to February 28 th 2014If interested in renting out the Rec. One of Monterey <strong>County</strong>’s greatgems this complex offers a restaurant quality snack bar with spacious <strong>and</strong> clean restroom facilities. It is the home ofthe Jr. Giants Program, our PONY League, Youth Soccer, <strong>and</strong> Flag Football Leagues. It is also utilized via rental by thecommunity for tournaments, youth football practices, <strong>and</strong> soccer practices. Please note: Use of this facility requires asigned release of liability permit & a fee. OPEN USE dates for community access will be posted based upon fieldavailability <strong>and</strong> may be subject to change.Japanese School House is located at 11199 Geil St. This historical building has been recently renovated is available forsmall gatherings, meetings <strong>and</strong> classes.Rancho Moro Cojo <strong>Park</strong>. This is a 3.4 acre park in the Rancho Moro Cojo subdivision located on the corner of LosNinos <strong>and</strong> Comunidad Way. This park has a baseball diamond, practice soccer field, children’s play area, picnic tables<strong>and</strong> BBQ pits. A multi-phase renovation for <strong>2013</strong>-2015 with joint community support is being planned at this opencommunity venue.1, 234567Moro Cojo Nature <strong>and</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> facility is located off Castroville Blvd. <strong>and</strong> accessed from our Rancho Moro Cojo<strong>Park</strong>. In consideration of beingallowed by the <strong>North</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>District</strong> to participate in the above activity, I hereby waive, release <strong>and</strong> discharge any <strong>and</strong> all claims fordamages for bodily injury, death or property damage you may have, or which may hereafter accrue to me, as a result of their participation in the activity.
