Discussion Guide | The Last ConquistadorGeneral Discussion QuestionsSeason21Immediately after the film, you may want to give people afew quiet moments to reflect on what they have seen. If themood seems tense, you can pose a general question andgive people some time to themselves to jot down or thinkabout their answers before opening the discussion.Unless you think participants are so uncomfortable thatthey can’t engage until they have had a break, don’tencourage people to leave the room between the film andthe discussion. If you save your break for an appropriatemoment during the discussion, you won’t lose the feeling ofthe film as you begin your dialogue. One way to get a discussion going is to pose a generalquestion such as:• If you could ask anyone in the film a single question, who would you ask and what would you ask them?• What did you learn from this film? What insights did itprovide?• Describe a moment or scene in the film that you foundparticularly disturbing, interesting, or moving. Whatwas it about that scene that was especially compellingfor you?Acoma Pueblo.Photo courtesy of Valadez Media© American Documentary, Inc.14
