Awakening from the Slumber<br />
Preparing camp for the season<br />
Each summer, parents and<br />
boys show up the third week<br />
in June to an immaculate<br />
camp that is move-in ready.<br />
Little do they know how<br />
much preparation has taken<br />
place to bring the property<br />
out of winter hibernation!<br />
Although a large amount of<br />
work takes place in the<br />
spring months, the final push<br />
occurs in June, when alumni<br />
and staff gather for a heaveho<br />
effort to pull the camp<br />
together. Thanks to those<br />

What does it take to get the property prepared for the summer? A lot of things you<br />
would never think of. This short list is a start...<br />
�Wash all dishes, flatware and cookware<br />
�Service the fire extinguishers located throughout camp<br />
�Register the boats<br />
�Obtain waterfront permits from the state<br />
�Turn on all outlets of the water system<br />
�Weed whack throughout camp<br />
�Fix the roadside fence from snowplow damage<br />
�Sweep Gray Brothers Hall<br />
�Inspect each dorm for safety<br />
�Unpack library books and reshelve them<br />
�Conduct a state-mandated water quality test<br />
�Dust cobwebs, set up brooms, mattresses, lightbulbs, trash cans,<br />
recycling bins, scrub sinks in each dorm<br />
�Rake pine needles<br />
�Set up Cub and Pack <strong>Camp</strong>fire Circles<br />
�Install buoys, lemon lines, moorings, and docks at the waterfront<br />
�Place targets on Archery Range<br />
�Scrub the dishes room top to bottom<br />
�Clean the ping-pong tables<br />
�Arrange trash service for dumpster<br />
�Distribute brooms and trash barrels throughout camp<br />
�Power-wash the Mines (bathroom) top to bottom with chlorine<br />
�Service the camp vans, register and insure<br />
�Move picnic tables to Cubs and the Lower Ballfield<br />
�Strip and repaint boats as needed<br />
�Set up staff quarters under Baloo, the Cave in Ford Hall, Chef's Cottage, Mang,<br />
and Hathi<br />
�Supply Mines with toilet paper and cleaning supplies<br />
