Dear Members,
You have probably heard about the recent
vandalism that has occurred here at
the club. Based on the guilty party’s
stunning lack of common sense they
basically confessed online via Instagram
and Facebook, (they took video’s and
posted them). Thank you to all the
members that provided me information
and to the Roswell PD for their quick
General Manager Bill Houck
attention and follow up.
We replaced the carpet on the main floor again last week.
Seems like it just a year ago that we put down the other carpet,
and actually it was just last year. We hope you like the new
look.
Trivia night starts next Wednesday. Put together a team and
join us at 7pm. Prizes for first, second and third will be
awarded.
Our golf teaching center opens this month. It will have the
highest technology available and can be used for lessons, swing
analysis and club fittings. The exact opening date will be
broadcast shortly.
You will see some television cameras out here from time to
time this month. We will provide the background for the reality
show.
COURSE MAINTENANCE
Jerry Matthews, CGCS
We are almost through another summer and I am very
proud that the greens have held up as well as they
have. The only green we lost significant turf at all was
on #16 and that was due to an irrigation system malfunction.
The cool August we had certainly was a big
help and relief, but there were three other factors that
made this summer much less stressful than previous ones.
One was the moisture meter that I wrote about earlier.
It really helped us quantify the amount of water to put
on the greens and control the soil moisture. Two was the
fans. The five greens that had fans are much healthier,
even though they always were previously five of the
most stressed greens. Hopefully we will be able to add
& BACKHANDS
Brookfield CC or Buckhead CC or anything CC will not be mentioned
in the series. We will simply be “the club”. So, basically
we are one big set for taping.
We considered going to Bermuda greens next year and had a gentleman
who has done a number of shade studies look at our
course to see if we could make that change. The answer is no.
We would have to remove lots of trees as the Bermuda greens
must have lots of sunlight. So, our plan is to stay with bent grass
and expand our fan program over the winter and spring and install
more of them.
Raise a Racquet, the tennis blow- out of the year was held last
weekend. Wow, what a party! Thanks to all of our fantastic
members and staff that helped pull this off again for Cystic Fibrosis.
I had said that we would be replacing the tennis steps this week,
but we will be delaying that awhile. And, the tennis food program
will remain as it has in the past with increased pricing. So,
no worries, no need to go to Publix, we got it.
We have had a great year so far at the club and I want to thank all
of our great members for making it possible. Much appreciated.
more fans for next year. And thirdly, our maintenance
team did the best job yet this year in wilt watching
greens and always being there to apply water just as
needed. It is not an easy job and there is no room for
error or becoming complacent, and we should all be
thankful to have such dedication from our staff.
We will be doing our fall aerification of greens on September
17 th. This will be a relatively minor one and
should not affect putting for long at all. It will help the
bentgrass to recover from summer stresses, and begin
rooting to prepare for another year. I am excited that
we will not have to go through major recovery on the
greens this year, and will be able to get them in great
fall condition earlier than normal. With several major
tournament events coming, I hope the course will be in its
best condition yet.

ON THE GREENS
The golf course is coming out of the summer months
looking great, although we do need some help. Neglecting
or improperly fixing balls marks on the
greens has long term effects on the look and the
healthiness of the grass. We ask for your continued
support in fixing balls marks on the greens and divots
in the fairways.
It won’t be long now, if you are looking for new
clubs or want to see if your old ones still fit your
swing; the Golf Academy will be the place to do it.
Computerized lessons will be available along with
fitting sessions. Pricing and details will be made
available in the golf shop.
A reminder to all members that keep a locker at the
club. Please make sure your locker is locked if you
have valuables being stored. Our locker room attendant
is not able to monitor belongings if lockers
are left unlocked.
